    Re: Removing Mate Desktop

Installing additional DEs is usually very easy when such desktops are distributed with a meta-package that install all the required packages. OTOH, removing a DE is the opposite.

Lubuntu is light, not super light (it used to be but no longer is; there are better alternatives for very old machines but outside of the "Ubuntu family").

[SOLVED] Re: 19.10 to 20.04 LTS release?

Not "dead easy" (for newbies), not recommended unless you explicitly want the development brunch and has a mistake: With 'apt' instead of 'apt-get', it's 'full-upgrade', not 'dist-upgrade'.
  5. Re: how to password protect a folder????

Do NOT follow this ^^^^ instructions. They are severely outdated and the software is no longer available/maintained.

Re: How to read partition ?

I believe he already did. Maybe you should ask for additional information directly to the service provider instead in a dedicated Ubuntu forum?
  7. [lubuntu] Re: 19.10 - weird SDDM issue with flash/strobo login screen and boot

You may try, via UEFI ("BIOS") settings to select the iGPU Intel instead, if such option is available and you don't need the the extra power from the dGPU.
  8. Re: Use Ubuntu/ROS with RoboteQ MDC2460 Controller

    Welcome.

Your post is fine in this section but the chances of a useful reply are very slim. You would be better in a ROS specialized forum.

[SOLVED] Re: install HP Envy 4500 printer

Please install HPLIP (and hplip-gui) from the repositories. Ubuntu 19.10 should include a version new enough to support your printer.
  10. Re: Disable notification for a single program?

OK. 20.04 is already very stable (tested during the last couple of weeks of forced confinement).
  11. Re: Ubuntu freezes when opening Google Chrome.

Yes, certainly. I wouldn't do that though, I prefer fresh installations - better results and much faster then a release upgrade. And by "much faster" I mean the difference between few minutes and...

  13. [ubuntu] Re: Dual boot windows with Ubuntu Using UEFI, and NOT modifying the MBR

Perhaps now it's time for you to try to understand UEFI, its requirements (particularly important for Windows) and how it boots. Namely, any Windows installed in UEFI mode is in a GPT drive which...

    Re: Can't install CUDA

Once again you're asserting things that are disproved by the results. If you had purged the older drivers only 440 version would show up but this is what you posted before (in bold what shouldn't or...

    Re: Can't install CUDA

In your other thread, specifically in post #18 , it shows 3 different driver versions installed: 390, 418 and 440. This is, in a nutshell, a horrible mess.

    As CatKiller correctly pointed out:

  22. [lubuntu] Re: 19.10 - weird SDDM issue with flash/strobo login screen and boot

The hardware, especially graphics, is very different. On the other hand, languages have nothing to do with it.
  23. [ubuntu] Re: Sound devices disappeared in Ubuntu 19.10...

You can try booting with an older kernel to see if it makes a difference or not.
  24. [ubuntu] Re: Sound devices disappeared in Ubuntu 19.10...

No, it isn't related to Virtualbox. It can be related with your experiments though but we can't/shouldn't speculate about it without knowing exactly what you did right before noticing the problem.

[SOLVED] Re: Format new micro SD card

A new 128GB microSD card is likely formatted as exFAT for which support must be installed (there's no native, "out of the box" support in desktop Linux yet).

But, of course, you can format it...
