Re: Help separating frontend and backend.

No you don't. The local frontend needs to have the proper IP address as well.

Do you use DHCP or static IP ? You need a static IP so your router doesn't keep changing the IP address of your...

Re: Need help to get optical spdif to work

It certainly did on mine. If you want to read a bit more about it try here and here.

Be aware that you can't use the internal connector without the proper bracket that provides the proper optical...

Re: Need help to get optical spdif to work

Which model is your motherboard ?

I recently tried to connect my motherboard (Asus M2N68-VM) via optical to my receiver. After lots of headaches and googling I found out that the connector is...

    Re: Archiving recordings

Sorry, I am by no means an expert on this. Have you posted any of this on auric's website ?

He can be a bit slow to respond but usually comes through with the goods !

You should give it a try.

    Re: Archiving recordings

Can't really see anything wrong there. Only difference is that you're not deleting the original recording.
    Below is mine.

For reference, mine takes about half and hour to an hour to transcode a...

Can you post the line you are using to call the script?

And the top part of the script where all the general variables are set?

    Re: Archiving recordings

I hope your exaggerating. I use mythnuv2mkv a lot. Probably transcode 1 recording per day, with 2 pass encoding.
yes, does take some time, but now what you're describing. This is on a pretty weak 2...
  11. Re: How do I transcode and export recordings?

I transcode some of my recordings to mkv using the mythnuv2mkv script here. This can be set up as a user job which then appears under the "job options" context menu in myth.
    Honours cut lists too....

    [SOLVED] Re: Database/IP address problems

I had this problem a while ago.

Deleting all my tuners, rebooting, re-adding them fixed the issue. Not very convenient but it worked.
  13. Re: No automatic commercial flagging for one channel

I did that, it's set to "use global settings", just like all the other channels.
  14. Re: No automatic commercial flagging for one channel

It's not so much commercials I'm trying to ge flagged, more the beginning and end of the program. I always records a bit of extra both sides to make sure I get the whole program.

    It's not that...
  15. Re: No automatic commercial flagging for one channel

Nope, it's not the ad length. The recordigs on that channel don't get flagged.

When I edit the recording and try to bring up the ad flags I get an "recording not flagged". If I then run...
  16. No automatic commercial flagging for one channel

For some reason automatic commercial flagging doesn't work for one of my channels (ABC1 in Australia).

All my other recordings get flagged automatically during recording, just this one doesn't.

[SOLVED] Re: No audio in MythMusic

    Yep, worked for me.

I'm only using stereo as well. The problem wasn't the multichannel bit, the problem was the digital out via spdif.

[SOLVED] Re: mounting hdd / editing fstab

Yes, disk failure will have serious consequences. LVM is not a redundant system. Nor are storage groups, though.
I believe that most people are worried that when a disk within a volume group dies...

    Most certainly !

I'd say you need to free up some space on / and then...

[SOLVED] Re: mounting hdd / editing fstab

You might also want to have a look at lvm.

I recently moved my backend to lvm for all my media, makes adding drives, managing space for recordings, videos etc. sooo much easier.

  21. Re: Mounting "etc", "tmp" & "var" to another partition?

    How about this:

    1. grub partition - as small as possible - only contains grub
    2. root partition - 20GB
    3. root clone - 20GB - to clone your current install. You can boot into this if you messed...
  22. Re: Mounting "etc", "tmp" & "var" to another partition?

Which gets backed up and recovered when he restores his root image, so everything still works.
  23. Re: Mounting "etc", "tmp" & "var" to another partition?

For that to work you only need /home on a separate partition. All your configuration files for programs etc. are saved in under your home directory, while the programs themselves are under root.
    So...
  24. Re: Mounting "etc", "tmp" & "var" to another partition?

Well, technically yes, but the result will not be what the OP wants, because those two folders will contain the same data, ie whatever is on sda2 will show in both folders.
    Doesn't work if the aim...
  25. Re: Mounting "etc", "tmp" & "var" to another partition?

    Correct.

    /etc, /tmp, /var don't really contain user data.

I suspect that you think /var is user data because a default mythbuntu setup stores video, recordings etc. under /var/lib/mythtv.
