I'm still a Linux newbie, I've no idea how to undo any updates. I don't understand why there's no option to set it to automatically boot the generic instead of the i386 version though. Right now I'm...
Noone, nothing? I know I'm not that only person who had this problem.
Yes, I did the same thing you did. When I go back to the same version of the kernel as you it works fine, but obviously its quite annoying as everytime you reboot it boots to the new one unless...
I never heard a clicking problem, but I was disconcerted to find that my laptop mode was off. Thanks.
After the package updater informed me I had updates, I installed them and restarted. Upon reboot I had no wireless or sound at all. Didn't realise the sound was broken until Saturday night I was...
I have a Fujitsu-Seimens Amilo 1818
Everything works, including all the FN keys. Wireless required ndiswrapper to get working, but thats it. Power saving and auto dimming works fine.
I have the exact same problem. No sound or wireless after the update last Thursday. If not for this cheap second laptop I fixed up with XP a few weeks ago I would have gone mental. After all, I can't...
I ended up installing the 32bit version, and now it works perfectly.

First of all, I made the plunge due to this wiki...
*Wrong section I guess*
Surely I cant be the first to have this error? My card works perfectly under Vista but isnt even detected under Linux? Guess we're at a standstill. Thanks anyway.
As you can see lshw didnt work, but heres the lspci results:

Sorry, slip of the finger. It is indeed mini-pci.
Also, I've found a blank cd so I'm downloading the latest Knoppix version now. Should have a full report in a few minutes. What commands should I...
Well just to make sure, I opened the bottom, the wifi is a mini-usb and it is attatched correctly.
I have a Knoppix live cd and another distro on a bootable USB. I'll check both tonight and I'll reply with the answers tomorrow.
Right, its the mini-pci built into the laptop. (I assume its mini-pci. I havent actually opened it up to check.) Thanks for the help attempts by the way. :)
Here's my lspci output: Again, doesnt...
Of course, it worked perfectly.
Edit: Ah damn. Forget it. Looks like its because I installed the 32bit drivers on a 64bit distro. I really hop SIS has 64bit drivers. I have a feeling I'm about to be screwed on this though. :(
