I think a Wiki is the way to go. Being able to jump through a word to a page with more details or references is invaluable. There are some good ones out there, I am just about to start building one...

Hi! Not sure if it will help, but if you have an android, check out an app called "fing" - I think it might be able to show what you want...
Coming back to you a little late... but have you considered keeping your data somewhere central, like FreeNAS, that you can then access from any PC or device etc?
