i have the same request of knowing how to clear the drop box file of search terms in the Search/Find dialogue of Gedit. Usually they are a hidden text file somewhere, but alas not found.

I just fixed it on my machine running 10.04 LTS. Here's what I did: Go to:
http://portland.freedesktop.org
And download the xdg-utils 1.0.2 file. Extract it to an empty folder in your home...
