Made it to the last line:

Re: Adventures while trying to install XConq

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you but unfortunately I am no further forward. Tcl remains the issue. The version required by the game is different from that on the computer.

Re: Adventures while trying to install XConq

Thank you for your response and the explanation, which makes a lot of sense.

There is nothing else for it, I will have to learn to compile. Since I have been using Linux for years now it's high...

Adventures while trying to install XConq

It looks good https://www.sourceware.org/xconq/ but it's not in the Software Centre.

[all variants] Linux equivalent of WinReminders?

I have found the piece of software I was looking for:

    http://www.winreminders.com/

It can send a reminder by e-mail.

Is this another job for WINE or is there a Linux equivalent?

    Re: Text to Speech

    Thanks!

    I'll take a look.

Presumably seeking "text-to-play" software is just a bit optimistic at the moment?!

Do you really mean voices plural?

    Re: Text to Speech

Is there such a thing as text-to-dialogue software?

The idea would be that the computer would give the different characters of a play different voices so that you could hear the conversation.

    Re: 3D game map editor

The closest thing I have found to what I am looking for, in the world of games, is Blitzkrieg II by CDV. A close second was Sudden Strike III by Fireglow. These are not Linux games that I know of....

    3D game map editor

Do any Linux games contain a 3D game map editor. I am actually looking for a terrain manager but a game might be an alternative source.

Have just installed 9.10 where I was using 8.10 before and am having the same problem with Ogg Vorbis files. Still investigating.

Re: Issues with a few WINE games.

Thanks for your reply. At least I now know what the problem is.

Given that some of the programs I want to try in Wine don't need 3D graphics I wonder if I should just remove the graphics card.

Re: Issues with a few WINE games.

You could be on to something here.

    I did the:

Re: Issues with a few WINE games.

I have the 64 bit version of Ubuntu 9.04 installed at the moment and experiments with Wine are bearing little resemblance to the results reported at WineHQ. Maybe I should try the 32 bit version?
