Hey there,
I use a scheduled cron command through webmin to basically clone the server's system partition to an .img file on another hard drive.
sudo partclone.dd -c -d -s /dev/sda -O...
I'm looking for advice on how to backup my systems. I'm that guy that never backed up anything. So I spent a lot of time setting up my ubuntu server and I'd like to keep it in working condition...
I figured it out. Turns out my monitor, a CHIMEI CMV 221D is notorious for failing to send out the EDID (a signal that tells your video card what resolutions is supported by the montitor) through the...
I have a nvidia 9300 GE (g98)
Nvidia post released updates is installed for additional drivers
Is xconf after I rebuilt it. (It was just a few lines before)
Nvidia settings shows my...
Not useless :)
You can help though by teaching me how to set nomodesetting on my existing install so I can boot into it! :)
Yes it did. Now I see my Minimal CD install in my hard drive. Can I set nomodesetting to be the default and ressurect it?
Should I get in, update to restricted, then reinstate modesetting?

I successfully installed 11.10 and ran it for a bit before a botched upgrade screwed things up....
I'm more looking for a systemwide command that would force Ubuntu to downgrade *everything* back to initial release Intrepid.
I tried reverting xorg and the radeon drivers manually but it didn't...
Same problem, down to the 1152 x 864 resolution. I'm using an R300 card as well. Neither Vesa works correcty (low resolution on my 1680 x 1050 monitor) nor does fglrx.
Updates have caused this -...
Some updates to Intrepid have completely ruined my graphics setup, resulting in me having to deal with half-resolution display and non-working sleep/hibernate.
I filed a bug but it seems to have...
First check out 'Hardware Drivers' in System -> Administration. Install the drivers through there.
Once you got that done (restart), go to System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution.
Good luck
It worked before in 8.10, so there should be no need to go back to Hardy.
I really think there's something wrong with the Radeon drivers.
Clean, very polished GUI.
Not beautiful, but no matter what I do, I can't get the sheer clarity and 'sharpness' in my themes, fonts, or even window borders. The GUI is just very, very clear and...

:( Radeon driver troubles
A recent update to ATi's proprietary(non-Open Source, which means we can't fix it - they have to) drivers has dropped support for your model of graphics card. You have an R200 based graphics.
The...
We're all stuck here with the same problem (except the person above me).
Radeons R300 and below are suffering because fglrx isn't working correctly and the open source drivers aren't detecting...
I have the same exact issue with a 9700tx (R300). I would use fglrx (which, actually won't work for Mr Hwang because he does not have an R300+ video card) but it's incompatible with my specific card....
I'm not positive it's due to an update, but I'm pretty sure that's what caused it, as I didn't touch anything major before it happened:
Ubuntu is stuck at a low resolution. My monitor's native...
Since an update, Ubuntu is stuck at a low resolution. My monitor's native resolution is 1680 x 1050. The Screen Resolution applet doesn't let me change the resolution either.
I'm using the Radeon...
Look at the log above your post. I killed dd but it hasn't been fixed. I think it's all those pdflush, kswap, kjournald, etc that's the problem.
That quieted the hard drive a bit, but it's still working like crazy. Here's an updated dmesg with dd killed:
[14418.166208] kswapd0(196): WRITE block 429984 on sda6
[14418.166213]...
Not that I know of. Is there any way of seeing what is calling up dd?
Not a clue. dd is almost constantly writing to my hard disk for apparently no reason. Indexing is off and I have no backup solutions.
Help?
bump.
