If the sync feature is available as an 'option' it should not get in the way of anyone who wants to mount/unmount.
That option will help make ubuntu more user friendlier than what is now.

Noticed this odd feature in Feisty/Gutsy (the only two I have used).
When you copy a file from harddisk to a usb flash drive, it doesn't actually write to flash until you "unmount" the flash...
