    Re: Linux Kernel 4.4

Ah, xserver and xorg are part of the problem, I'm not surprised. While many Linuxers despise Nvidia, I have had far more problems with open source drivers.

As to newer systems maybe working...

    Re: Extended Support: Livepatch

This card definitely works better with Nvidia drivers. Today I installed 14.04 32 bits just to see of that might help. It's weird, when waking from suspend using the Nouveau drivers, the display was...

Things are working well, with one exception: When I wake up from suspend, the screen is blurry, indicating display failure. you can still see everything, so it's not a total whiteout, but of course I...

Not really, other than the computer is 11 years old, and who knows how long it will last? Also, figuring this stuff out helps me learn more about Linux. I will probably get one at some point, but for...

    Re: Extended Support: Livepatch

Ah, I wondered about that. I will disable it. I'll also check to see whether it has already upgraded the kernel, and if so, roll it back.

Thanks! And thanks to Cannoical for the extra support, I...

    Extended Support: Livepatch

I had to install Ubuntu 14.04 due to my video card failing, and the need to be able to use the older Nvidia driver 304, with the onboard graphics. My machine, an old Gateway desktop with AMD dual...

Reaper has a Linux version. It's still a work in progress. I have not used it, but the forum there is very active, lots of folks sharing info on how to do things. You will get lots of help.

[SOLVED] Re: Lubuntu 16.04 and Nvidia drivers.

I have discovered that Linux Lite 3.8 allows the 304 drivers, and is supported until 04/21, so I am using that. No display problems at all. For now I'm calling it solved. A year from now, who knows...

[SOLVED] Re: Lubuntu 16.04 and Nvidia drivers.

Thank you, I will look into those cards. The 8400GS worked fine until it went. The fan was making a terrible noise. I took it apart to try to fix it but managed only to make it worse....

Thanks for setting me straight on that! Running Unity is very iffy; I have found that only light systems work well on these old graphics. I'm going to see if I can run Lubuntu 18.04 but use the 4.4...

[SOLVED] Re: Lubuntu 16.04 and Nvidia drivers.

I booted the 4.4 kernel, and it runs the Nvidia 304 fine. But the 4.15 kernel won't, so 4.4 appears to be the last one it works on. I have it running and everything seems fine. And as CatKiller said,...
