    Hi,

I am on Ubuntu Hardy (Mint 5, Elyssa, actually, which is a derivative of Ubuntu). Each and every time, without fail, that I try to do a conference call with my co-workers, the mic stops...

  18. [other] Re: VMWare + WinXPPro killing my harddrive

Ah, that could be one factor in the activity increase: it's running two operating systems at once. The vm disk image is on the same physical drive as the host OS, but it's on a separate partition.

  19. [other] Re: VMWare + WinXPPro killing my harddrive

Thanks, but no cigar. It's still accessing the harddrive frequently after defragmentation.
  20. [other] Re: VMWare + WinXPPro killing my harddrive

That could be possible. Where would I check the settings for this?

*EDIT* Ah, nevermind. Why do I always post before I search myself? Found it. I'll defragment manually and see what happens.
  21. [other] VMWare + WinXPPro killing my harddrive

Re: Slow menu with custom kernel

Fixed (apparently)! I had forgotten to enable the Intel HDA sound module when I compiled the kernel. I recompiled with this, and the menu is, for some reason, as fast as it was before.
