Does anyone here know what's happened to the "discussions" search option in Google? Its signal-to-noise ratio was superb compared to the regular search. In recent months it started to appear...
Apparently there's something else to this–other people too have had disk UUID's disappear, eg.:
I somehow managed to recover /home by just...
My system has suddenly started halting with the following messages during startup:
init: ureadahead-other main process (...) terminated with status 4

As I understand, Open Office Impress can not export pie charts into .ppt format -- they vanish in the export process. This silly little detail is presently a show-stopper, because someone with a wisp...
Miniature cabinet of many tiny drawers for small stuff
Wooden box with slightly larger stuff
My main computer's name is still the same as it was three years ago when I last posted in this thread. My laptop's name, Failinburgh, was inspired by my expectations for the trip abroad for which I...
Did you hear about the coder who tried to use libegyptiangods?
He couldn't make sense of the apis.
My netbook only has USB inputs. I'll be using a USB card with two channels in and out, so no more than two tracks will be recorded at once. I suppose I might end up with ten 48kHz stereo tracks'...

Edit: for chrissakes... After posting the message below I decided to run QJackCtl just one more time before giving up for today and of course it works now. I'll leave the message there for reference...
I don't think any of those systems have been designed with Steinberg's products in mind. They're self-sufficient synthesis frameworks.
The command is alsamixer, without the space in the middle.
Franz Liszt - La lugubre gondola no. 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDEBfJxsJZ8), which I hear depicts the boat carrying Wagner's body down the Canal Grande in Venice.

Karmic, AMD64, 2.6.31 RT kernel, Edirol UA-25EX USB sound card.
All the audio software that I normally use (Ardour, Rosegarden, synths) works fine.
Now I installed LMMS. When I start it, JACK...
The multi-window paradigm causes no end of disruption when working on multiple images simultaneously with a 'focus follows mouse' window manager setting, which I am not going to abandon for the sake...
I feel for the OP. All I want from a media player is simplicity and usability. I used XMMS for years until they discontinued it. I couldn't stand XMMS2 and turned to Amarok. It was slow and clunky...
Other: an iRex. Hackable, e-ink. Alas, I don't need one--I like real books.
The script indeed assumes the directory already exists.
If you modify the sox command string inside that mess to
"sox " $1 " foo/" substr($1,1,index($1,".")-1) "48.wav rate 48000"
the output should come out as foo/whatever48.wav.
Flightgear. (Version 2.0.0 was released last Thursday.)
I have Rosegarden 10.04 here. It seems that the program uses a horrid amount of CPU resources to redraw its main window during sequence playback.
If I set a sequence playing and move to...
