  1. [SOLVED] Re: Can't connect to sites served from Amazon's EC2 cloud

    Fixed by uninstalling Firestarter and writing new rules using ufw.
  2. [SOLVED] Re: Can't connect to sites served from Amazon's EC2 cloud

    I've been back through /var/log/dpkg.log and there is nothing there that is obvious.

    Booted from an Ubuntu Live CD - where it works as expected - and copied over all of the network settings and...

    Thanks cjhabs: good idea. I flushed the cache and still no joy...

    Edit: I should mention that I can retrieve the pages without issue using w3m or Lynx.

    [SOLVED] Permanently change console font

    I want to have Terminus as my console font. Unfortunately, I see no way to set it permanently.

    I have edited /etc/default/console-setup and entered:

    CODESET="Lat15"
    FONTFACE="Terminus"...

    [SOLVED] Re: Low resolution in framebuffer

    This is a hack, but it works. In /etc/default/grub remove 'splash' from the default line and add a new line:

    GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1680x1050

    You don't get any fancy splash screen - which is...

    [SOLVED] Re: Low resolution in framebuffer

    32 bit depth doesn't have any effect.

    I also removed "vga=0x0369" from the grub line as I understand this is deprecated in KMS. That had no impact either...

    [SOLVED] Re: Low resolution in framebuffer

    Thanks BrokeMahPC,

    I commented out the payload line to see if that made any difference (it didn't). I'll reinstate and reboot just to confirm though.

    [SOLVED] Low resolution in framebuffer

    My grub menu (I dual boot with another Linux OS) displays at the correct 1680x1050 but then when Plymouth starts, it reverts to a much lower resolution. I don't particularly care about the splash...

    SOLVED
    This post has the secret ingredient:

  19. [ubuntu] Re: grub2 is in 1680x1050, but console frambuffer is still low-res

    I can confirm adding the vga value to the GRUB_CMD_LINE has no effect - resolution is still very low.

    For reference, my full /etc/default/grub:

    GRUB_DEFAULT=0
    GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: grub2 is in 1680x1050, but console frambuffer is still low-res

    Thanks Leppie - that is the correct code (i was using it in my kernel line for versions up to 9.04).

    My understanding was that "vga=xxxx" was deprecated in Grub2 and we weren't supposed to use it...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: grub2 is in 1680x1050, but console frambuffer is still low-res

    No - grub loads at correct resolution 1680x1050(as does X), but if I switch to TTY1-6 it displays at 1280x1060 - so the console resolution doesn't appear to persist beyond grub...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: grub2 is in 1680x1050, but console frambuffer is still low-res

    Thanks Leppie: not that I recall.

    However, I'm not clear on why I should be looking at xorg.conf when I am trying to sort out console resolution (X doesn't even need to be running)?
  23. [ubuntu] Re: grub2 is in 1680x1050, but console frambuffer is still low-res

    There isn't much in there:

    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    DefaultDepth 24
    EndSection

    Section "Module"
    Load "glx"
  24. [ubuntu] Re: grub2 is in 1680x1050, but console frambuffer is still low-res

    I have been searching for a solution to this issue. My Grub2 menu displays correctly at 1680x1050 but once I switch to TTY1-6 I am back at 1280x1060.

    I tried adding
