[ubuntu] Re: New Unity 13.04 file manager is terrible

good work. Looks like that patch was only just announced on webupd8 over the last 24 hours, which explains why I didn't see it earlier this week when I went looking.

[ubuntu] Re: New Unity 13.04 file manager is terrible

    Thanks kevinmchapman

I used the F3 split-screen umpteen times a day so losing it is a PITA. It took Gnome/Nautilus years to add the F3 split-screen option, then they just took it away again....

[ubuntu] Re: New Unity 13.04 file manager is terrible

Gnome' new version of Nautilus lacks a lot of things. No more F3 split-window facility, and with the removal of the Preferences menu there is no way to set the default view to list-view rather than...

[ubuntu] Batch conversion WMV to MP4 with Avidemux

    [ubuntu] Re: libexpat.so.0

I'm using Ubuntu Natty (32 bit) and libexpat is installed somewhere altogether different, in /lib/i386-linux-gnu

[ubuntu_studio] Re: Brother QL-500 label printer installation

OK, I set up a fresh build of Ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) and tried again, using the procedure referred to by davidmohammed and adding a few twists that I found elsewhere incl Brother's FAQ. And it has...

[ubuntu_studio] Re: Brother QL-500 label printer installation

    Glas synaptic is ok again.

The printer install seems likely to fail again and cause more frustration - but depends on how patient you are feeling. I'm giving up the printer issue for now myself;...

[ubuntu_studio] Re: Brother QL-500 label printer installation

Well this is what I did to fix my error, but of course I'm poking around in the dark so can't guarantee its perfect.

I don't know why the install failed, but to fix Synaptic I suggest you try cleaning it up:

  19. [ubuntu] Re: Clean 9.10 RAID 1 Install will not boot when sda is removed

Same problem, same conclusion. Ubuntu simply does not handle encrypted raid, despite giving the impression that it does. Very irritating that there is no apparent interest in remedying this.
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Boot degraded with /boot on RAID1 and / and /swap on LVM + encrypted RAID5

I have tried repeatedly to get a degraded raid to work on Ubuntu, similar to what you've done. Its fine unencrypted, but as soon as I set it up encrypted it won't boot either disk. What's annoying is...
