Have you try from BIOS? I use Lenovo S10-3,when i have problems with the Wifi Switch i need to do hard reset from CMOS Battery.

Try to run Ubuntu Live CD or from your USB flash drive from your computer just to make sure that everthing is OK before you install Ubuntu into your computer

disable ipv6 :gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub
search code GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, and change it to :
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1"
Save and update grubsudo...
I would like to say that Yes, Booting from USB stick take more time for me first time running Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition on my Lenovo S10-3.
