  1. [ubuntu] Re: Need for 'cifs-utils' in Ubuntu 13.10?

Hello. I'm guessing that the graphically done method is just using strait up Samba. So my thought is, no. I don't think you need Cifs. I'd add in more info about using fstab to mount the NAS, but I'm...
  2. [SOLVED] Re: Can't get full access to a USB stick.

Hello. I believe the behavior is to just delete the files and not use the trash. At least, that is what my computer has done just now. It's not unusual to have a hidden trash folder that Windows will...
  3. [lubuntu] Re: New to Linux - How to encrypt Partition

I had a post, but it occured to me after that you are using Lubuntu, and I'm not sure if the Lubuntu installer will allow the same partitioning options to encrypt. Sorry, couldn't figure out how to...
  4. Re: Issues with installing Guild Wars 2 on Ubuntu 12.04

A repo (repository) is a list of packages, so to speak. By adding the offical PlayonLinux repo, you can get the most up to date version just by running the Ubuntu system updates. The error may be...

[ubuntu] Re: Don't automount Samsung device

I see. I tried this with my phone just now and I got the same result. I didn't realize that the Galaxy devices would behave in such a way. I guess that solution won't work then...

[ubuntu] Re: Don't automount Samsung device

Hello. The best way I can think to do that is to add the device to your fstab. That's a file that is in charge of mounting devices. You will need to first determine the UUID of the tablet. So, plug...

    Re: 7970 + Linux

I'm not too familiar with Radeon cards (Nvidia user), but I'd probably use the newest version of Ubuntu for that. In fact, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will be releasing very soon and will probably be the best...
  8. Re: Issues with installing Guild Wars 2 on Ubuntu 12.04

It's been a while since I've played GW2 on Linux...Let's see. Okay, to update your PoL (PlayonLinux), you should add their repo to your system, as the Ubuntu repos do not keep up to date. Here's some...
  9. Re: Grub fails to install when booting from USB (ubuntu 12 install)

That is odd. I also had an issue with Grub installing, but I used a DVD. I just told it to skip it when it asked me what to do about it. When the install was complete, I told it to continue testing...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Live CD won't boot, just blinking cursor on black screen

Oh good! Glad that you solved the problem. Don't forget to mark the thread as solved.
  11. Re: Using only /etc/network/interfaces to connect to an open, hidden wireless network

Ah, we may be refering to two different things that can be found in the /etc/network directory. I was thinking you were working with a network profile used with something like the netctl network...

    [SOLVED] Re: GeForce GTX 750

Sorry, I probably should have just asked if you were using ext4. In which case, it's not snapshot compatible. Using a snapshot, you could give a try to ripping out nouveau worry free. If it broke...
  13. [SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Live CD won't boot, just blinking cursor on black screen

    Hello!

A quick search tells me that you have an EFI system. You may want to see if disabling Secure Boot will resolve the issue. Sometimes it gets in the way. You can do that in the BIOS settings.
  14. Re: Using only /etc/network/interfaces to connect to an open, hidden wireless network

    Try adding:

    HIDDEN=yes

    [SOLVED] Re: GeForce GTX 750

I'm jealous of your 750 GTX!!! :-o But I would say that the proprietary drivers are the way to go. I never use Nouveau. Hopefully 14.04 will just work better for you, using kernel 3.13. I can see why...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 won't get installed in UEFI pc

I would disable Secure Boot to rule it out. I'm not sure if 12.04 is compatible or not.

    Re: Update ???

You don't really have to upgrade, but it's recommended. The updates give you security updates that fix security weaknesses, which are nice to get. But, it's not unheard of for people to be running...

Re: Replace Windows 8 with Ubuntu

I agree with that, other than I wouldn't even try to run games in Virtual Box. However, I did have a VB set up last year when I needed Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft SQL Server software. It...

    Re: Chrubuntu WINE/PlayOnLinux Help

Oh good! I wasn't sure about the architecture. I'm glad that it's an x86 model. PoL is a wonderful program. For the "Cannot find wine" problem, just install wine before PoL.

Re: newbie having problems installing WINE

Since you have the repo in there, it's probably easier to just use the terminal. Don't worry, it's not so bad and you only have to do it once. Copy paste this:

    sudo apt-get update && sudo...
  23. [SOLVED] Re: Should I worry about SSD when I am not using TRIM in ubuntu 13.10?

It's a really good idea to use trim. It's not that your SSD will get damaged, it's that you need to free the no longer used blocks. You do not have to have Windows to it for you, though. You can do...

    Re: Chrubuntu WINE/PlayOnLinux Help

I'm not 100% possitive, but I think you install an ARM architecture OS. That means that x86 and x86_64 packages will not run on it. The reason is that an ARM processor uses a different instruction...
