A good place to start would be to type
lsusb in terminal. This will tell us your detected input devices. You can use this to see if your fingerprint reader is detected.:)

Hmmmm...So you already have Windows installed correct? Have you tried the Wubi installer?

Most computers have a small battery on the motherboard that stores the bios settings and keeps the time. So if you unplug even a desktop computer the time stays correct....

If it helps make you feel any better I have personally used Ubuntu for at least 4 to 5 years and never had a problem with viruses and stuff lol.
