if u are using nvidia drivers try to install the drivers using envyng...
using synaptic install envyng-core
then in a terminal type
sudo envyng -t
and uninstall any nvidia drivers...

ok try installing your Nvidia drivers using envyng.

open a terminal
$ sudo apt-get install envyng
then after that
