    Re: Frequent system freezes

Do you really use XDMCP? I haven't seen that in over 20 yrs.
I don't use systemd-resolved. It was causing problems so I purged it along with resolvconf and manually setup the /etc/resolv.conf files...
  2. Re: Assigning old home folders to fresh install

More detailed facts please. Less abstract ideas needed.

    There are 3 considerations.

  3. [SOLVED] Re: [Question] Help Please. Kubuntu 20.04 NO GUI - Boot stuck at "Finished update UTM

Sounds like the GPU is failing or just needs to be reseated or has a bad power connection. A flaky PSU can cause this type of behavior.

Re: Help enabling 2nd monitor in xorg config

The only reason that I'd prefer /etc/X11/... over /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is because I backup everything in /etc/, but I backup NOTHING /usr/share/.
    Functionally, it wouldn't matter.

    +1!

For $250-ish, should be able to get about 13,000 passmarks. Found parts with a Ryzen 2600, MB and 16G of 3000 Mhz RAM for $275. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6G8F4q There were cheaper...

[server] Re: Converting desktop into server

Agreed. However, the log file that grew on me was in /opt/, not /var/.

[server] Re: Converting desktop into server

logrotate has worked for 20-40 yrs, limiting the size of log files. Misconfiguration is the most common issue.

Re: Execute the command most safely

If you just want to run the command at a specific time, use cron.

If you want to run the command when a new file is copied over somewhere specific, use inotify.

    When processing is finished, you...

Re: 20.04 SSH connection refused to server VM

Every attempt at v2p or p2v I've made has failed. It was more work than just doing normal backup, migration, and restore processes. The only time is was less effort was when I moved a Win7 VM that...
  13. Re: how does remote desktop give improved performance?

I don't use Gnome3, but there might be a way to turn down the graphics it uses. I think this is setting automatic for all "gnome approved" remote desktops and only recently in Gnome3 systems. Don't...
  14. [kubuntu] Re: fstab no longer mounting nfs shares at boot

There's only 2 tricks to autofs.

The auto.master controls the top level directory for each sub-file which holds the configs.
