I don't think virtualbox has formatted the disk, so that might be the cause. Then I need to know how I can format the drive through the terminal.

Is your server e member of the domain? Is it a domain controller for this domain? If so, how did you create your domain? Is there a windows domain controller in your network? Is it just a Ubuntu...
That would be better. Copy your smb.conf
cp smb.conf smb.conf.masterUse the command
testparm -s smb.conf.master > smb.conf to clean up the smb.conf file

You can use AD Users and computers from any windows client that is a member of the domain. If you don't have it on any client you either install adminpak for Windows xp or RSAT for Windows 7.
It might be that you have to change your network settings for your virtual machine. If you are using VirtualBox you change this in
