  1. Re: Installation on external drive messed up boot from internal drive

A better question is, why hasn't it been fixed? The bug has been around for seven years or so.

Don't have a Mac, but on another forum saw this suggestion, "Once you are booted to MacOS, got to...
  2. Re: How to upgrade kernel and initrd in a LiveUSB?

Persistence is a good way to try an OS, but it's a crappy way to run one. Anyway, did you notice? sudodus answered your question. You can't upgrade the kernel. You can recycle the /home directory.
  3. [SOLVED] Re: want to install grub to external drive, but installer changes it to internal driv

What's always worked for me (learned here) is opening GParted before running the installer, removing the boot/esp flags from the internal drive's EFI partition, installing, then using GParted to...
  4. Re: Huge syslog and kern.log files filling hard drive, possibly on account of wifi?

What a stupid bug. siragan, perhaps this askubuntu will help with the log problem. Never had occasion to test, so no promises, but worth a shot.

[SOLVED] Re: GRUB dual boot no more access to Ubuntu

The error message is clear enough, and wouldn't have come up if you had done as suggested in the first place. Hope it works out. Good luck.

Re: How to fix my boot settings?

Easiest way to burn a Windows ISO to flash drive in Linux is mkUSB. Alternatively, if you have a friend with a Windows machine, Rufus does this very nicely also.

To install mkUSB to your Ubuntu...

[SOLVED] Re: GRUB dual boot no more access to Ubuntu

You run fsck in Terminal. The form of command is sudo fsck -yv /dev/sdxn, where x is the device letter and n the partition number.

By the way, you also can run fsck from Advanced Options >...

    Re: Bricked GRUB after boot-repair

Before you do that, try manually installing Grub from a live session. Can't recall seeing that NVRAM-locked error before, so maybe this won't go through, but it's a normal procedure and can't hurt. ...

    Re: External HD Sharing

Wait for a second opinion, but I expect what you want/need is hfsplus. http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/focal/man7/hfsplus.7.html.
Actually, I'm pretty sure you need that. The question is...
  11. [lubuntu] Re: I'm just a noob that wants to install linux HELP!!

That's odd. There should be two choices: Erase disk and Manual partitioning. Just checked in VBox (I have the ISO, as I installed Lubuntu to a multi-boot USB hard drive) and the option is there...

Re: No Bootable Device During Installation

Sounds like you've solved the problem (congratulations!), but for future reference, that's the name of the Windows boot manager. So, no, never was what you wanted here.

Only due today. Surely you can wait 24 hours before wondering whether it's late. ;)
  14. Re: Want to buy a portable SSD to run Ubuntu on - Need advice

Side note. Perhaps you already know this, but be aware there's a bug in the Ubuntu installer which will bollix your internal drive's boot loader when installing to USB drive in UEFI. There are...
  15. Re: Fresh Install of Ubuntu 20.04 will not boot

Agreed, the RAID question is critical. tacodos, please boot a live session (same as you used to install), set up an internet connection, open Firefox, log into the Forum, and navigate to this...

A few thoughts. Best reason to get a second computer, IMHO, is to have a backup if your primary has to go to the shop. TheFu makes a fair point about the advantages of a desktop, but laptops have...

Re: How login being root ?

Consistent with the linked thread, you're premise is faulty. You don't need to (and shouldn't) log in as root to install software.

The usual (and correct) method is simple: sudo apt install...
  21. [SOLVED] Re: Installing and booting Windows 10 from a solid state drive

Re: How to acheive dual boot option
