    The question mark is not in the gdisk command, but once in gdisk you can use it to see list of valid commands. ? is not a valid command.

    What brand/model system? some have specific settings in UEFI settings.

    Note sure if anything works as long as you have locked NVRAM.

    You are using UEFI with UEFI Secure boot off.
    That is what I use, although some like Secure Boot on and maybe in future I will turn it on.

    I have run grub-install from my UEFI install without errors.
    It defaults to use ESP - efi system partition mounted in fstab.
    So do you not have an ESP in fstab? Or is it from a drive that now does...

    One of the first things I change is to remove quiet splash & replace with noplymouth.
    Seems to boot faster, or just may be seeing something happening is better than staring at logo screen.

    Kubuntu install worked without issue, to my HDD sda drive where main 22.04 install is on NVMe drive.
    Too used to NVMe and tuning that 22.04 boots very quick. Noble took over 40 sec from HDD to boot....
