  1. Re: adding DDR2 memory to Aspire AX1300 - understanding limits

That has nothing to do with it. It's a Socket AM2(+), so the memory controller is integrated into the CPU. The CPU and memory controller are capable of 64-bit goodness. It's the BIOS that limits it...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: On a quest for my utopian music player - specific sorting options & metadata

I usually delete the Music folder/dir and recreate it as a symbolic link ("shortcut") to my real Music folder/dir. Maybe Rhythmbox (RB) will like that better? There probably is a way you can tweak RB...

[ubuntu] Re: Ryzen 5 vs Ryzen 3

I'd recommend an Nvidia GT 1030 as long as you're not bothered by the proprietary driver. You can get a passively-cooled version if you want. I have a Ryzen 2400G with an Nvidia GTX950 on a B450...
  4. Re: Usb ports 3.0 and 2.0 doesn't work or pop up

Do you mean 5593? Googling 5539 doesn't come up with much useful information.
Are you updated to the latest BIOS version?
    Can we see more info?

    sudo lsusb -tv
  5. [all variants] Re: Chromium VP9 Hardware Decode Support for supported NVIDIA VDPAU cards [experiment

It also seems odd that your build finds libvdpau headers, but doesn't report a version:

    checking for LIBVA_DEPS... yes
    checking for LIBVA_X11_DEPS... yes
    checking for LIBVA_GLX_DEPS... yes...
  6. [all variants] Re: Chromium VP9 Hardware Decode Support for supported NVIDIA VDPAU cards [experiment

I tried this on the latest KDE Neon (forget the version number, but it's based off Ubuntu 18.04).
vainfo now shows vp9 support, but it doesn't show in the Nvidia Settings page:

    $ vainfo
    libva...
  7. [SOLVED] Re: Can I Get Better Internet Speed With USB On a PCIe x1 Card?

The card uses the venerable Intel 82574L chipset. It should be supported "out of the box" on any modern version of Ubuntu (>= 16.04).
  8. Re: Help with motherboard compatibility ???

You didn't tell us what CPU you have. I am assuming it's a Pentium 4 (possibly the Pentium 4 515 from Googling). I agree with ^TheFu that it's probably not worth spending money on this system unless...

[ubuntu] Re: Does not detect all RAM

It didn't go so well. Lots of segfaults when trying to set vramlimit, but this was on KDE Neon. *Shrug*

[ubuntu] Re: Does not detect all RAM

It's not a problem so much as a possibly sub-optimal configuration. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything you can do about it without BIOS control. The amdgpu kernel module does have some...

Is /dev/sda5 an NTFS partition? Does the message only occur when you've booted into Windows between Ubuntu boots?

[kubuntu] Re: Why is my computer swapping?

That's not what it means. Similarly, if you set swappiness to 0, swapping may still occur as long as swap is available (contrary to what a lot of people believe). The formula the kernel uses is:

[ubuntu] Re: Does not detect all RAM

I think you should look at the link I provided. If you have a choice, it's better to reserve a small amount of RAM and let the OS dynamically allocate more as needed.

[ubuntu] Re: Does not detect all RAM

I beg to differ. I posted the screenshot as an example of what terminology a BIOS might use. I looked through the manual for the OP's model and it does not give a detailed description of the BIOS...

[ubuntu] Re: Does not detect all RAM

I don't think Optimus setups have dedicated VRAM. Don't quote me on that.

If it really is the GPU allocating that memory, allocating 2GB is a bad idea. It is better to allocate a smaller...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 19.10 recognizing Neatgear ac1900 as Netgear Integrated Camera?

Debian moved to using a copy of the USB ID's provided by systemd/udev (same thing with PCI ID's). So updates have to come through the package manager. I don't remember exactly when that happened, but...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 19.10 recognizing Neatgear ac1900 as Netgear Integrated Camera?

    1. I haven't submitted the USB ID change yet, because as you said, it's just an aesthetic thing (and I'm very good at procrastinating).
    2. I don't think you can manually update with update-usbids...
  23. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 19.10 recognizing Neatgear ac1900 as Netgear Integrated Camera?

As for the USB ID, if you can give me a link to the product you have, I would be glad to submit the name to the USB database so users aren't confused in the future. Is this the one?:...
  24. [SOLVED] Re: Can I Get Better Internet Speed With USB On a PCIe x1 Card?

You mention ethernet. If you can use that and don't need to be wireless, then the most effective solution is to get a PCI-e Gbit LAN card.
