    Re: perlbox

I haven't got a clue if you can do this with ubuntu, but with Mandriva, you can install support for a 32bit system on a 64 bit system.

    Re: more secure?

True about the servers, and yes it will be interesting to see what happens when the market share increases. I agree that exploits will be seen, but I doubt that they will be Linux's fault. And even...

    Re: more secure?

As has been said above over 70% of servers are on linux, and this is what the real hardcore viruses would go for, so user base has nothing to do with it.

    Re: more secure?

The terminal will come with time, as for the packages, some are by the community, some are by companies like mozilla or limewire. When you talk about converting things from windows, its more that...

    Re: more secure?

When you first switch you do have a learning curve, but in the end it is worth it.

As for security, there are practically no viruses.spy/ad/mal/ware for Linux so you don't need the standard...

    Re: perlbox

Perlbox was one of those little gems that you stumble on, I can't help with anything other than recommending it. I can see why this program would be so useful for what you are doing. I would greatly...

  11. Re: EXT3, XFS, JFS, ReiserFS - which file system is best?

Also if you change from NTFS to a Linux FS, Windows computers wont be able to read the drive, whither that an issue or not I don't know, but its worth thinking about.

  13. Re: Is it possible to make a web base Linux OS?

He has been doing it for a few years now, there is a new beta out which comes as livecd and web based, I find it very useful. He also has openoffice available in firefox. I think, as he puts it, it...

That must have been hell to write, assembler is so unfriendly.
  15. Re: EXT3, XFS, JFS, ReiserFS - which file system is best?

what about BTFS, its surely got something in Linux's future, its till in beta, but it already is up with XFS and is far faster then JFS. It also seems to be able to support many of the ideas that are...

    Re: SkyOS creator reviews Ubuntu

2008 is not without its issues, but 2008.1 even at beta was like creamed French butter, purely for lack of something smoother than French butter.

    Re: SkyOS creator reviews Ubuntu

I find this odd, as many of you have said, many pieces of SkyOS have been 'taken' from Linux, yet as these pieces are uder GPL, then how can SkyOS be closed source without breaking the GPL agreement?...

  24. Re: Will future releases of Ubuntu support ext4?

This would be vry useful and probably ive the best results. However I don't know of such a tool, but i ma sure that one will exist somewhere.
  25. Re: Will future releases of Ubuntu support ext4?

The problem with benchmarks of these sorts is that the results are still quite variable, as you have said, many of the filesystems are better for some things than others, and i am sure will perform...
