    Changing the file to a file.txt did the trick. The only problem I had was the sort stopped at a empty row (no contents) and I had to scratch
    my head a little bit, and eventually I got it right....

    If I suspend the Desktop and later, while suspended, the power and UPS fail, will the file system and integrity survive ?

    The file is always saved directly from within Writer. It is displayed on the Desktop (Ubuntu) as a filename.odt and also shows the icon as a .odt.
