No, the cover file should be just a jpeg which you can add manually to the album folder. When automatically downloaded Banshee should store it soewhere in his .conf file I think. Maybe the problem is...

That's strange, I haven't had any problems with cover art. Are the jpegs those downloaded by Banshee or are they set by you? If the latter maybe the format's not right.
