    Poll: Re: Fruitcakes! (poll)

    Here's one I prepared earlier.
Much more booze in it than the posted recipe.

    Re: Best server distro?

    Lenny is a headache.
Broken dependencies all over the place.
By far the worst Debian release ever.
You can't even install subversion without enabling testing or unstable repositories.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Before I dive into virtualization, a few questions.

    No.

For audio you need the whole machine.
  6. Re: IT pros struggle to convert Windows users to Ubuntu

Rubbish. They both run in Wine.
For most things there are a number of packages that work in Linux anyway.
Dia is ok for simple stuff, Intalio for BPMN and Umbrello or Netbeans for UML.
    If you mean...

Re: Which Quicken substitute is best in Linux?

If you need debtors and creditors ledgers you need something that can cope.
Most commercial software is a recurring investment of more than $1000 a year. In most small to medium businesses it is the...
  8. Re: Any idea why system restore concept not yet developed in ubuntu??

    Too hard.

Use LVM on the / partition and create a snapshot before you do something dodgy.
If it fails dump the snapshot, if you are happy merge it.

LVM can do a lot if you look into it.

    ZFS...

Re: Gimp 2.8 may stop being multi-window

    I agree.
There is at least as much to lose with idea as there is to gain.

All that is really needed is for all the toolbars to come to the front when GIMP has the focus.
    A tiling option from...

Re: What do you like on your Pizza?

    Me too.

I make Pizza once a week.
Adding mashed pumpkin to the dough improves it enormously.

Re: Which Quicken substitute is best in Linux?

I would widen the search and look at packages like openErp, Xinco and similar packages if you are running a business.
They take a bit of fiddling to get right but I think they offer a bit more.

Re: A Virus Has Been Found... Now What?

It is also essential on a dual boot system.
When the inevitable virus attack hits the Windows partition at least the virus can be identified and possibly repaired.

I have removed viruses from a...

You need to use a little AJAX & javaScript.

    Plenty of available examples.
  16. Re: Renting a carpet cleaner Vs. hiring the pros?

    I hate carpet.
Full of dust & mites it just collects rubbish and vacuuming doesn't help.

Imagine clothes you only washed a couple of times a year.

Timber or tiles, accept no substitutes.

Re: Should I upgrade my XP to 7?

My recollection of the early days of XP was a virus ridden disaster that didn't work very well with hardware and broke nearly every application you owned.

My experience with the W7 beta was very...

Re: Arch Linux: It's a virus I tell ya!

There is absolutely nothing interesting about Arch.
I will go as far as to call it the most boring distro I have used in 10 years of Linux.
    You install it.
    It works.
    You update it.
    It works.

    [ubuntu] Re: MIDI Keyboard?

Try qjackctl and patch the inputs to a soft synth.

It does take a lot more fiddling to work it out than Windows.
Once you get it worked out it isn't too bad.

Re: How do you like your Steak

    I have to disagree.

The steak would be well done and wrapping it in foil would cause the juices to stew and toughen it on the way to the table.
It is important that any moisture that escapes the...

    Poll: Re: Open Office: Grrrrr

Moving from Word to OO and back is a disaster.
Even Word 2007 works in Wine. You just have to Google to find out how to install it.

Re: How do you like your Steak

I breed cattle so I always have good Angus beef.

I like the flavour of rump for steaks. The optimum thickness is about 3cm (just over an inch).
I throw it on a very hot plate until it gets to the...
