Hi, y'all,
I am a backup noob. My idea of backing something up is finding a big enough flash drive and copying the necessary files over.
So I really need to learn now. I'm wiping a Vista laptop...
I got a 6th generation touch Nano for Christmas, so I started looking for ways to use it with Ubuntu. Unfortunately, the folks who write libgpod say:
Doesn't sound too hopeful. I'd suggest...
According to a recent thread on the GTKPod development mailing list (the GTKPod folks write the software that allow Ubuntu to manage iPods):
Unfortunately, if your computer is offline, Synaptic does not have access to the latest package lists and you won't be able to upgrade to the latest packages.
Also, the wget script does not work...
I'm not sure, but it looks hopeful. Try installing something else and see if it works. If it does, you're good to go!
Looks like we can safely scrap the notion that the correct source is not enable.
When dealing with the similar issue with adobe-flashplugin, this was the solution:
$ sudo rm...
Could you post your /etc/apt/sources.list?
I've seen this problem before with flashplugin-installer. That problem was fixed by enabling the Canonical partner repo. Do you know what repo that software came from, and can you (re)enable it?
Hi, jaen-ni-rin. Welcome to Ubuntu Forums!
I believe the persistence feature of USB Creator does include all file changes and installed packages. And a 4GB flash drive should be enough for Ubuntu...
Have you tried deleting /var/cache/apt/archives/bandwidthd_2.0.1+cvs20090917-3_i386.deb and trying again? The download may be corrupted.
I wonder what would happen if you dragged the shortcut to the panel, changed the icon in the shortcut's properties, and dragged it back to the menu. I'm in LXDE at the moment and can't test it, but...
First of all, welcome to Ubuntu Forums, crazyrufio!
Looking at another thread, you should be able to remove /var/lib/dpkg/updates/0057 and fix the problem. Try this:
$ sudo mv...
Hi, supravat,
What language are you programming in?
If C, here's the documentation for setting a window's potition:...
Hi, COKEDUDE,
Are you trying to ask questions or file a bug report about mintupdate? You might the Linux Mint Launchpad page.
If JDownloader installed correctly, and you're now having trouble getting it to start, you should open up a new thread for that. You should also ask on their forum since you'll be more likely to get...
Hi, TimEnid,
That method should work for you. All you have to do is open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal), and then copy those commands into it. When you enter the first command...
The trouble with that method is this: the lists of available packages resides on the Internet; if your offline computer has never been online, Synaptic will not know what packages are available.
...
Not true. Ubuntu can be run offline. It is difficult to install software without an Internet connection, but tools such as Keryx and APTOnCD make it much easier.
ayeshrajans, you'll need to...
Sorry you had to dig up all that info yourself. But I'm glad you finally have it working!
Hi, Zelf, and welcome to UbuntuForums!
To understand what makes installing software on offline Linux computers so difficult, one should understand what makes it comparatively easy in Windows.
...
Hi, prakreet,
I'm glad you've found Keryx useful!
I'm really not sure why your APTOnCD keeps re-mounting. Let me point you to another Keryx user who found a fairly nifty way to use APTOnCD with...
I managed to get the connection set up with GnomePPP and wvdial. The instructions are a bit extensive, so I'll link to my blog post about it:...
If kaleem.adil wants to go the repo DVD route, they are also available for purchase from OSDisc.com. That's handy if you don't have the ability to download such huge files.
Hi, efflandt,
Well, here's what happens when I try to use Network Manager to connect.
1) Right-click the Network Manager applet and choose "Edit Connections."
2) Go to the Mobile Broadband...
