Re: What software do you use to build web sites?

I too am a disliker of WYSIWYG type GUI editors.

For all my web development I use gedit and FileZilla.
  2. Re: SUCCESS! World of Warcraft on Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid

Have you tried renaming the WDB folder in the WoW directory?
  3. Re: Wine 1.1.6 - Gnome Panels visible when running World of Warcraft

I was unable to get that to work. Probably something I was doing wrong, as I'm not very familiar with Linux. I did, however, revert to WINE 1.0 following david_kt's suggestion, and I've got rid of...
  4. Re: Wine 1.1.6 - Gnome Panels visible when running World of Warcraft

Nope. Panels still visible. Tried with one or other and both the "allow the window manager..." options. :(
  5. Re: Wine 1.1.6 - Gnome Panels visible when running World of Warcraft

I tried that, but without success. :(
  6. Re: Wine 1.1.6 - Gnome Panels visible when running World of Warcraft

I have all desktop effects turned off by default.
  7. Wine 1.1.6 - Gnome Panels visible when running World of Warcraft

I've just updated WINE to 1.1.6, and now when I run World of Warcraft both the top and bottom Gnome Panels are visible, but they weren't before this update. Is there a way to hide the Gnome Panels...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu print server for MS network...

My inclination would be to install the HP 5550 as a local printer on LPT1: on the XP machine, then change the port to point at \\192.168.1.3\printer_name.

    [ubuntu] Re: Uninstalling information.

I'd recommend taking a disk image (if you can, of course) using something like Acronis Disk Director Suite, or Norton Ghost prior to installing Ubuntu, just in case anything really bad happens. I'm a...

[ubuntu] Re: New RAM not recognized

I'd also check the documentation for your motherboard. It may not support 2GB sticks, or it may only support up to 2GB. You could also check the motherboard manufacturer's website for BIOS updates...

[ubuntu] Re: how to edit files

Open a terminal window (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal)

    Then type:

    sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

You will then be able to edit the file pretty much like Notepad in Windows...

Re: Why do you choose Ubuntu over Windows

Why I have ditched Windows XP in favour of Ubuntu.

When I started reading about the, err, "features" of Vista I decided that the time had come to move away from Windows after a stay of 17 years.

    An Agony of Windows-ness

I've spent the last two days transferring a dozen Windows XP users and computers from one site to another. It really brought home to me how much programmatic latency there is in Windows systems,...

    Re: Genuine Windows is Ubuntu

Thought I'd give it a go too:

Installed ie4linux, went to download Windows Defender, and got whined at for wrong ActiveX settings. Added "*.microsoft.com/*" to trusted sites and refreshed page....

    Re: return to castle wolfenstein

If you're after the "original" RtCW I suspect the only way you'll be able to get it is second hand. I don't think it's been manufactured for several years now. I notice there are several used copies...

Re: Best way to put XP on Ubuntu?

I've just installed XP Pro on VirtualBox 1.5.2 r25433 and, much to my considerable surprise, it's running faster than it did when it was not virtualised! I now have a < 10 second boot time!

    Edit:...

    Re: Cloths shopping, what's in?

My personal preference is for T-Shirts, Chinos, big jumpers and hiking boots, although my wife does gently tease me about my so-called style.

I've never liked wearing "proper" shirts, although I...

Re: What is the name of your computer(s)?

Mine are very imaginatively named "ubuntu01" and "ubuntu02".

If I ever get around to building a dns/dhcp server I might consider giving everything a more interesting name. Or I might name it...

Re: Linux Still Doesn't Make it On Desktop

Personally I think that comment says it all. Just replace "hearts and minds" with "disposable income".

This "Is Linux ready for the desktop?" nonsense is FUD dressed-up to look like informative,...

Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

A few weeks ago I finally ditched XP on my desktop machine and went to full Ubuntu 7.10. Printing is not a problem for me as my printer is old (Brother HL-1030) and hosted on a print server (Linksys...
