  1. [ubuntu] Re: Dual Default Printer Setup. Is it possible???

If it was me, I'd save bth types of files to the downloads directory, then run a script - 1 printing to each printer. his is trivial using lp and a different target.
How to determine which file is...

    Re: New to ubuntu

You aren't in Ubuntu. There's a boot failure. At this point, just reinstall, wipe the OS completely. There isn't any easy fix we can talk you through as a beginner. Whereas an install should be...

What, exactly, does the screen look like? Do you get to login? Does it say "GRUB" or "Grub Rescue"? Or something else?

    Re: New to ubuntu

That's the normal command to start a GUI, but seriously, I'd just do a fresh install. Be certain to look over Oldfred's links. I don't have an XPS, though I have used a few Dell laptops for Linux and...

[ubuntu] Re: fstab not mounting nfs my share at boot

I manually configure networking using standard ways that Unix has supported for decades. Ubuntu Server doesn't include network-manager. Often, NM settings are tied to a login, not system-wide.

    On...

    Re: New to ubuntu

What did you expect to happen?

If you want a GUI, try running startx.
On Unix-like OSes, a GUI is optional. Normally, someone would install a desktop version on a laptop, but who knows what you...
  8. [ubuntu_mate] Re: How to do this safely :: Delete first OS partition to expand second OS

Please post commands and output so we have facts without interpretation. For example, we need to see the actual block locations. The partition numbers don't necessarily relate to on-disk order.

  9. Re: Setting up KVM with GUI Ubuntu getting download errors

Are you stuck on using xrdp or would a better solution be considered? xrdp has poor security.

    a) Gnome3 is bad for remote desktops. Almost any other DE should be used. Gnome3 is just too heavy...

[ubuntu] Re: fstab not mounting nfs my share at boot

You can use autofs to mount the storage on-demand, outside the fstab. I use autofs for all NFS and USB mounts. There is a how-to for autofs at help.ubuntu.com somewhere. Google finds it easily...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: No DNS after static IP change on Ubuntu Server 16.04

systemd broke much of how networking works. Sometimes ifup/ifdown don't work anymore and we have to use the systemctl commands. Sometimes those don't work and for expediency, I just reboot.

[ubuntu] Re: fstab not mounting nfs my share at boot

All my NFS systems run Ubuntu. All my clients run Ubuntu. I've shown mounts and clients from 16.04 and 20.04.
I don't allow colors in my terminals, so don't know what that means.

    I'm a little...
  13. Re: xrdp/xorg multiple users on the same session (students/teacher)

Thanks for the feedback. I know some tech conferences that use x2go desktop share mode from the presenter's laptop to their recording systems. This offloads recording from the presenter's machine....
  14. [ubuntu] Re: No DNS after static IP change on Ubuntu Server 16.04

Are you restarting networking between changes?
  15. Re: Is it possible to programatically simulate clicking on a system notification popu

Perhaps. It depends on the programmer of the button you want to click. cnee can send X-events to a specific place on the screen.
cnee can record keyboard and mouse events. Something like this...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and Windows 10 sharing a data drive? Server a better idea?

Or any SSD in a USB3 enclosure. An externally powered, cheap, USB3 HDD is fine too. Avoid using USB-powered storage. Just be certain to get a r-pi v4 or later so USB3 and GigE networking have the bus...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and Windows 10 sharing a data drive? Server a better idea?

When you are new to Linux, being paranoid is good. People often make mistakes that accidentally wipe MS-Windows. Having 2 separate SSDs isn't needed and will add to confusion, unless you understand...

[ubuntu] Re: fstab not mounting nfs my share at boot

    Try

Also, other errors in the fstab file could be breaking this line.
The options that I use for NFS mounts via...

Yes, you can use multiple databases at the same time, but don't expect to perform joins between them without a data synchronization task running externally. They are separate. Separate connections,...

[SOLVED] Re: Command to find public IP address

    Why remember anything?

Put it into a script in your ~/bin/.
Or make an alias "get-ip-pub" - and add it to your shell's aliases. May have a "get-ip-lan" alias too.

You replaced it without looking at the SMART data? I wouldn't have done that.
  25. [ubuntu] Re: No DNS after static IP change on Ubuntu Server 16.04

    Whoa!

You can't just change from the network and router from
    192.168.1.254 ---> 192.168.101.1
and expect things to work. The router needs to be configured with the changes first. Depending on...
