  1. [all variants] GNOME / xmonad / Automatic Partition Mounting

    Dear Ubuntu friends,

I'd like to start using xmonad but there is one thing that's holding me back. As I'm sure you're aware, when you start GNOME it automatically detects all the partitions on...

[ubuntu] Re: Opera 9.50 / Firefox 3.0 Fonts

No sooner did I post my question than I had a brain-wave and found the answer out for myself.

Opera 9.50 seems to enable the byte code interpreter by default which causes fonts to look different....

    [ubuntu] Opera 9.50 / Firefox 3.0 Fonts

As you can see from this screenshot, the same fonts look quite different rendered in Opera 9.50 than they do in Firefox 3.0. Does anyone know how to achieve the same look in Firefox? I'm assuming...

    Re: Missing Rhythmbox volume icon

You have searched for volume-settings-daemon in breezy, architecture i386.
Can't find that file, at least not in that distribution and on that architecture.

    Re: Missing Rhythmbox volume icon

I am assuming this is because I'm using IceWM as opposed to GNOME.

    (gdb) n
    601 buf = gtk_icon_theme_load_icon (button->theme, s, w, 0, NULL);

Start by posting to the right forum. You could also try filing a bug.

    Re: totem won't start

Yeah. It's not a problem with totem-gstreamer itself, but rather GStreamer (at least the oldish version that comes with Hoary).

    Re: totem won't start

I should have mentioned it's totem-xine that I have the problem with. totem-gstreamer loads fine and plays stuff but isn't really an option because it has some nasty bugs like not being able to seek...

sudo apt-get build-dep package should sort out any build dependencies. Also
fakeroot apt-get -b source package will automagically download and build the package for you in one go.

Re: How did you learn to program

There's no magic trick to it. Get a good book (there's usually 1 definitive book that all the experts recommend e.g. the K&R book for C), read it and do the exercises. Easy.

    The difficult bit is...

    Request: Tor 0.0.9.10

Fairly minimal build dependencies so I shouldn't imagine there would be any problems backporting it.

    Thanks.

Re: Request: Quod Libet Media Player

So is this a candidate for backporting or not? It looks pretty neat and I'm in need of an audio player because Hoary rhythmbox doesn't work for me with esound disabled (internal gstreamer error).
