[ubuntu] Re: Skype video call not working.

If you're desperate: dig around in the cellar for an old version of Linux, running kernel 2.6, and install that and see if it works.

I'm using a video camera and tuner card (common bt878 chipset)...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Anyone else think Skype for Ubuntu sucks?

It's on version 4.1. I just installed it on Ubuntu 13.04, and it works the same as Mint 14. On my HP laptop it works fine, but at work I'm using a video camera into a capture card (bt878 chipset) and...

Same here. I used Cinnamon on 12.04, so I blamed it on that. Maybe not the case??

[ubuntu] Re: convert old laptop to ubuntu

I have the same Toshiba laptop as you, runs Puppy slick as a whistle. But I do like Bodhi. Right now I'm running Ubuntu with E17 on my dual core laptop with 3GB; it's running 512MB with a few...
  6. Poll: Re: How many people use Ubuntu with Gnome-shell in stead of Unity?

I like Cinnamon in Mint so I installed it in Ubuntu. Best of both worlds. Actually I would like to figure E17 out, it's pretty cool in Bodhi, and lightweight too. But I heard it sucks on Ubuntu.

Re: Does Cinnamon work well with Ubuntu 12.04?

My cheap HP laptop has a wierd flicker problem when the panel auto-hides or I bring it back. Video just goes crazy for half a second. When it's non-hidden, it works fine. Cinnamon in Mint 13 works...

[ubuntu] Re: Cinnamon desktop with unity launcher?

Why don't you set her up as a separate user, then you or she can log on with whatever desktop floats your boat. Plus she can decorate hers all girly without you throwing up.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu for Windows Dummies

I like Cinnamon better than Unity, because there's menus where you can pick out the apps out of categories even if you don't know what you have or what the names are. Unity is fine for touch screens...

Re: Why Unity, Cinnamon is much better

OK, I'm an olde fart and ex-Microsoft slave, I admit it. I also use a lot of different apps and can never remember what half of them are. So when I want to log into the server down the hall I open up...

Judging by their Engrish, I expect these folks are someplace beyond legal jurisdiction. I don't think I'd trust their (all-Windows) drivers to be malware-free.

I always used the PDF Import plugin in LibreOffice to edit PDFs. You have to go to the OpenOffice site and search for it and download it. Pretty slick, just open a PDF like it was any text document,...

  18. [SOLVED] Re: Cannot mount CDROM DVD drives after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx

Two theories: Nautilus "forgets" the drives (both of 'em?)...
  19. Re: How to install Damn Small Linux in hard drive
