have you tried adding ppa:kernel-ppa/ppa to your system's Software Sources, then doing an update.
best if you add this too
you can get it here...
don't forget to update grub after you've removed your windows partition
edit
just in case you don't know how
sudo grub-update
I think that you may need to add sudo to the line to run as root
Ive updated mine to 2.6.38.7 generic
dont forget to install both headers too
everything works fine & I use lucid both Gnome & KDE
the easiest way is to add the kernel ppa
have a look at this page
https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/ppa
remember you may have to rebuild your drivers if you dont have dkms installed...
Ive been using SuSE on & off since 9.1 & it's a very good OS, but if you want to play multi-media files you must change to the packman repository's in yum see here
http://packman.links2linux.org/
you need to use something like SystemRescueCD
goodluck

goodluck with what ever printer you use
use the sta drivers, Ive never had any problem with them.
re b43 Ive never been able to get this driver to work.
ndiswrapper works well but a bit fiddly at first
goodluck
a quick search on the lexmark site & you would have found what you need
look here

goodluck
the easiest way to do it is boot from your windows disk & when your in the installer give windows a partition of 80 gig & install.
