  1. Re: How to upgrade kernel and initrd in a LiveUSB?

You can't do that, I'm afraid as all changes to the OS itself are lost on rebooting and to run a new kernel you have installed requires a reboot.

You say you have upgraded all packages in your...
  2. Re: Everything I open is being displayed partially off-screen

What hardware do you have, particularly the graphics card, and what resolution are you managing to run?

I assume this is on Ubuntu 20.04?

Re: Switching user in Ubuntu 20

You mention two users running as root in your first post here. What exactly do you mean by that as we do not support running as root in Ubuntu; the system uses sudo instead of logging in as root. ...

Re: Switching user in Ubuntu 20

If you go to the logout system in Ubuntu 20.04 you may get the option of Switch User.

If you do not see that in Ubuntu there must be an option at the login screen of GDM (I think that is the...

[xubuntu] Re: conky / IP / VPN

I can't imagine why but then I don't know very much about VPNs and have never used one.

However the VPN is "virtual," so perhaps it still uses the Public IP that is from your ISP, even when you're...
  6. Re: Can't Open Gnome Tweaks tool in Lubuntu

Thread moved to General Help. which is more appropriate and a better fit.

Resolution Centre where you posted is for problems with the forum itself, not problems with your OS.
  7. [SOLVED] Re: Remove Gimp as a possible pick as file manager in Preferred Applications

    Great news!

Please mark as SOLVED from the Thread Tools menu up-top if this is now solved to your satisfaction. It is a great help to other users searching the forum.
  8. [other] Re: Ubuntu won't connect to wireless internet

    What hardware do you have?

Open a terminal and run command
    inxi -Fzx
Please use Code-Tags for terminal output as it makes that output much more easily read and understood, formatting the text...

    Re: External HD Sharing

You say you have installed hfsplus but I believe you also need hfsutils in order to use hfs filesystems fully.

I missed that earlier, so apologies for the miss if that turns out to be your problem.

    Re: Problems installing Piper/LibRatbag

The command needed for ppa purge to do what you want will use the same ppa name syntax as was used to add the repository, so in your case I think it should be
    sudo ppa-purge...

    Re: External HD Sharing

I don't really know much about hfs+, but being an apple filesystem you may need to investigate the permissions of the mountpoint of that external disk, probably /media/username/diskID, though I am...
  13. [SOLVED] Re: Remove Gimp as a possible pick as file manager in Preferred Applications

I think raleigh3 used that as a terminal command, which needless to say, can't find a file or folder by that name.

    @ raleigh3
You were meant to look in the file I showed in post #3...
  14. [SOLVED] Re: Remove Gimp as a possible pick as file manager in Preferred Applications

Have you run the command I suggested in post #3
    cat .config/mimeapps.list | grep gimp
If not do so now and let's see the output of that; it may give us a clue what has allowed gimp to be included...
  15. Re: How disable automatic delete of packages in var/cache/apt/archives ?

I'm sure there may be other ways to ensure all packages in cache are retained but maybe the easiest way is to use synaptic, which you'll have to install first, and in the Settings ->Preferences...

  21. [SOLVED] Re: How to change width of column on left side of the screen

When I did try Lubuntu-20.04 at its release I removed plank and...
