  1. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04 - Old Apple MacBook - Boot Takes Over 1.5 Minutes?

Slow boot, or slow to start booting?

To cut off 30 seconds pre-boot, "bless" the partition from a macOS boot disk/disc.

sudo bless –device /dev/disk0s3 –setboot –legacy –verbose

  4. [ubuntu] Re: sudo asking for password every time

Sorry, at the time I didn't understand your answer about !tty_tickets and the new version of sudo.

Two years later I find it turns out this was an interaction with the fish shell. More details...

[ubuntu] Re: Slow boot and login under Ubuntu 11.10

Try booting the Live CD into ram to see if the problem is related to upgrading, or bad video driver, etc.

[ubuntu] Re: live cd won't get wireless

Nothin' to sneeze at kid. Ten years ago you couldn't buy a PC that powerful no matter how much money you had. ;)

    What's it got in it?

    lspci | grep -i net

  9. [ubuntu] Re: How to uninstall Ubuntu 11.10 without using windows

Take the older Ubuntu Live CD, boot it and run the installer.

During the install, select manual partition editing. Then do what you need to. Remove the partition, format it, or just install...

  11. [ubuntu] Re: Reverted to Gnome 2.0, now Ubuntu refuses to start

While I recommend you back up /home as well, I've installed Ubuntu over an existing install before. It deleted /usr and a few other folders but left /home alone.

  16. Re: What you would like to see, changed or fixed in Precise Pangolin ?

I'd like to see more QA work done, and less change for change sake. Every release introduces as many bugs as features, which makes it scary to upgrade.

Worse, most of them never get fixed even...

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Natty sudo asking for password every time

It's actually worse than that, it asks every single time in the same terminal. I had an unmodified sudoers which worked fine in maverick and not in natty.
  22. [ubuntu] Natty sudo asking for password every time

Does anyone know if this has changed or was broken in Natty? on Maverick it worked as expected, with sudo only asking for the password every 5 minutes or so.

    I followed these instructions, didn't...
