    In Apple Mail, select the mailboxes you want to export. Go to the menu and choose Mailbox > Export Mailbox

    You will only be able to boot natively off an external disk if you boot via EFI which is troublesome to say the least. Even if you get it to boot you will very likely have hardware issues.
