    Poll: Re: Do you sudo?

No, I do not. Mostly because nobody other than me uses my computer really, so I don't need it.
And Debian doesn't come with sudo installed, and I'm too lazy to install and configure it.
  2. Re: Cultural differences in Indian computer usage?

I am Indian, and no, I do not refresh the desktop. In fact, I don't even know anyone who does that.

Also, all the other points in the post are <insert an appropriate profane word of your choice>

Re: Separating code and HTML (php)

    I don't really like frameworks.

They have their own quirks and a lot of them need to be 'learnt' how to use even for programmers who have experience with the language the framework is written in....

You can create a click-to-execute jar file, with the following steps:

    Compile your Java classes:

  7. Re: Ubuntu ICS/DHCP/Samba Server! I've finally made it!!!

I don't think so. I've never noticed any significant speed advantage with Samba.
    And congrats.

You're confusing "The World" with USia.

USia is built upon greed. Not the world.

Re: Do You Have A Programming Job?

    It's like any other job.
Depends on the project. I normally can judge what projects may be interesting and what may not be, but sometimes you do end up doing some boring stuff.
    At some point,...
  11. Re: Free webhosting by Google: App Engine (with Python and Django)

lol. I guess it's time for Yahoo, Facebook, Wordpress et.al. to pack their bags then?

PHP is pretty much built for the web. Google offering free toys isn't going to change anything.
  12. Re: Free webhosting by Google: App Engine (with Python and Django)

They should probably use eRuby. Ruby off the rails and with all the hackish PHP code-mixed-with-markup goodness. Only problem is that it is a lot slower than PHP. :)
  13. Re: Free webhosting by Google: App Engine (with Python and Django)

It can run either through FastCGI (using persistent processes) or through mod_python (where the interpreter is controlled by the webserver),
I think rails only does FastCGI.

    Also, this Google...

Re: What language should I learn?

Actually, I am an experienced web developer.

My own home site runs on python, with a nice little app I made up myself, no turbogears/django involved.

And I am not talking about 'just' fastcgi...

If you are interested in web development I second the PHP suggestion.
