    I have already looked through the documentation on ubuntu and a few other distros as well. None of them say anything about what i am talking about only what i stated before about the gpe storms.

    No you are targeting the whole device instead of the partition. try the command "dmesg | grep /dev/sdc" with out the quotes. it should return with something like /dev/sdc1 or something like that....
