i didn't use the 11_windows file, i opted for 40_custom using those directions from that guys blog.

If I remove the 40_custom file and update grub, I get no windows 7 entry in my grub.cfg.

yes, I followed all the instructions including updating grub after i added my entries.

I've been running the windows 7 RC since march or so when I built my new machine. Over the weekend I decided that I wanted to put Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop, since I rarely use my old ubuntu laptop...

Got 8.10 installed on the girlfriends computer today, and everything is working great except for decreasing/increasing volume using her volume keys.

I'm currently using rhythmbox to play her...

ah yeah i see now where I went wrong there.

Installed gdesklets because I cant use conky transparently with compiz and seperate backgrounds on workspaces.

every desklet I add adds to my panel.

ok, worked on this for hours last night and for another two today. it doesnt seem i'm going to get any sort of cooperation out of conky and compiz. [-(

setting black background on conky and...

press alt-f2
type gconf-editor
click run

goto apps
goto nautilus
goto subfolder - preferences
uncheck box - show desktop
close gconf-editor
