OK, seems like I found a fix, or at least a workaround. My printer is connected via USB cable, which might be a necessary precondition for this workaround. On the other hand, it may be that the...
Same here. Exactly the same printer model, exactly the same issue. I'm running 10.04 and this printer has worked great for years on Ubuntu. I think there was a CUPS update recently, what got broken?
System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Clearlooks
is much more to my liking. I hate the black on purple default - what were they thinking?
In Gnome I just go to System -> Preferences -> Power Management, where there is a checkbox for this.
Another way (in Gnome) is to run gconf-editor from the command line, and go to apps ->...
Do you get the black screen on wakeup from suspend? I had the same problem when I updated to the nvidia 180 driver, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1120222. To fix it, I was forced to...
180 breaks suspend/resume on my MBP 4,1.
Well, that is confusing! What the heck is the purpose of the added command "xkbset m" in the original post, then?
I have reverted to Version 177 of the driver, and once again suspend works perfectly.
Anyone have any idea why Version 180 might break things? Or where I should look to see what might be amiss?
Just installed the NVIDIA version 180 graphics driver and activated it - now suspend fails. Anyone else getting this?
To be more precise: suspend seems to work as usual, but upon resuming after...
There is a known bug in Bluetooth that causes the pairing problem in Intrepid. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6086632&postcount=5 for a workaround.
WICD seems more stable - does not drop connections at random the way NM did.
You could try WICD. It works better for me.
Sound works just fine on my MBP 4,1 under 8.10. I did exactly what the guide says.
If it doesn't work for you, maybe you had a typo in adding the line to the file? Did you try rebooting? Did you...
I had flaky suspend experience caused by the "sky2" module. I'm told that the MBA is similar hardware to MBP 4,1, so maybe this applies in your case. You can try unloading sky2 module on suspend, by...
Look here for the solution: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam/PPA.
I take it you just installed Xubuntu 8.10 recently? Have you looked at the Wiki page for your model? You may find some hints there.
Looks like this bug report might be relevant? You could try setting
gconftool --set /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/sync_to_vblank 0 --type bool
as suggested there. Dunno if this applies to...
For a long time I experienced flaky suspend issues in Ubuntu on my MBP. Occasionally, suspend would hang. This seemed especially likely to happen if I suspended & resumed several times in succession...
Are you using the bash shell? (The default.)
If so, I think you would add a line to the .bashrc file in your home directory. Just open it with an editor, gedit will do fine, and add the lines

Why not install ubuntu in its own partition? Makes more sense to me...
Anyway, I had a problem with flaky suspend issues on my MBP 4,1 that proved to be caused by the "sky2" module. When I started...
+1 to that!
If developers are going to change standard things (like /etc/acpi for suspend scripts) around randomly, first I say: WHY? and second, PLEASE REMOVE THE OLD LEGACY FILES SO THAT FOLKS...
Scratch my last post. Resetting the SMC did NOT work. The problem is actually with wicd!
I finally noticed the real pattern, and I can now reproduce 100% of the time.
A few months ago, I...
You probably need to sync the MBR (or did you already do that?)
See here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro4-1/Intrepid and look at the installation instructions for the installer bug....
Solved!
All I had to do was reset the SMC. I followed the instructions posted here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 and now suspend works again.
