    Re: Upgrading NVidia driver

You can't "upgrade" with the Nvidia driver so you have to uninstall it, upgrade then reinstall the Nvidia driver. But why even bother?? Just back up your data and do a clean install, a lot faster and...

Just right click the tarball you downloaded and choose 'extract here". The tar command basically just for extracting the archive.
  5. Re: Where to find the Gimp Plugins directory?

If you install with flatpak it won't be in /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib, probably in something like $HOME/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins
  6. Re: Why does Ubuntu have so much trouble upgrading smoothly?

Agreed, the less tinkering the more likely for a smooth upgrade but then the less reason to "upgrade". People usually think they would rather "upgrade" than clean install because they have custom...

[ubuntu_mate] Re: Order of kernel instillation

Just put them all in one folder, say ker, then do

    cd /path/to/ker

    sudo dpkg -i *.deb

It will figure out the order itself.
Make sure there is no error message, then reboot.
  8. [SOLVED] Re: [Worked around] Firefox just disabled my addons (just me?)

Yeah strange isn't it? I have two Ubuntu installations, 16.04 on one machine and 18.04 on the other. Both have FF66.03 and same addons. On the 16.04 machine FF never has a problem at all, everything...

  11. Re: Do I have to reinstall Ubuntu if I upgrade to a newer version of it?

Even in cases where you can "upgrade" I still recommend backing up your data and do a clean install, a lot faster and problem free.

[ubuntu] Re: How to install tar.gz files

What software is that? A tar.gz file is an archive exactly like a .zip file, so it really depends on what is in the tarball. If it is a binary (already compiled) then basically you just click the...
  14. Re: How to install older packages on Ubuntu 19.04?

Are you sure you need it? Openjdk works just as well for 99.99% of use cases.

    Re: Partimage VS Clonezilla?

Yes, that is what I use it for.

    Re: Partimage VS Clonezilla?

I recommend fsarchiver. It is more flexible than clonzilla as it doesn't require the target partition to be as big as the source even if the source might be mostly empty. This is a show stopper for...

[SOLVED] Re: Python seems broken on 16.04 LTS

Ubuntu is not Arch, Arch is a rolling release so it can replace components after it is released, but Ubuntu doesn't work that way. Debian based systems are much more rigid. If you change system...
