OK I see. If that's the case, what does the 'search locations' setting - in which you can add bookmarks - do? I've bookmarked the new drives and added the bookmarks to the search locations, but...
Thanks, but that's not what I'm trying to do. I'd like those mounted SSD's - which are connected via a SATA rather than USB - to be part of the search results in the activities overview.
I've recently installed some extra storage in my desktop (HDD & SSD) but nautilus doesn't conduct searches there unless I specifically enter the directory. The activities overview doesn't search...
Yes, it opens from the command line and there is no output in the terminal.
"xdg-open~" yields:
1) You press the Super key and search for something --> click on a result (e.g. a file or folder with that name) --> nothing happens.
2) Yes, it's persistent after reboot and yes it's still defined.
Nautilus has started playing on my machine - it was all good but all of a sudden I've noticed two problems:
1. Links to files/folders from the activities overview do not work (nothing happens);...
I have tomboy in my dash favourites but there is no applet unfortunately.
What's happened to the tomboy applet in Ubuntu 18/Gnome. It's nowhere to be found and installing the gnome extensions leads to an error.
Thanks :)
Thanks :)
Yes, words of wisdom. Thank you.
Yes, it has worked out. Thank you both :)
I just changed the permissions as root and it worked out. Thank you for your tips and help.
Of course, it's a matter of permissions, duh...
That's what I was thinking of doing too. However, the command "echo 0 > /var/log/log_file_name" doesn't seem to work, with or without root privileges, returning, "bash: /var/log/syslog: Permission...
That makes sense. In that case, can you just clear them for a particular date range?
Thanks for your help. Will clearing syslog affect the system in some way, or is it useful literally as a log by which to asses what has gone wrong etc?
Yes, it is:
The largest one is syslog, at 8.5G:
12K /var/log/alternatives.log
8,0K /var/log/alternatives.log.1
8,0K /var/log/alternatives.log.2.gz
360K /var/log/apport.log
4,0K /var/log/apport.log.1...
Hi guys,
I've noticed that my var/log directory is quite large; around 10GB. Is this a normal a size? I'm suddenly getting notifications that I have hardly any space left on my root partition....
Yes, other's have commented that it works of for them. In my case I have to use Nautilus for the searches to be meaningful.
I've got online search results disabled so that should not be an issue. The most basic and obvious search results sometimes fail to come up in the Dash. For instance, one would imagine that typing...
So all updates have completed but the Dash search is still frustrating
