I never got it to work without bringing the system to a halt...it became so slow it was unusable.
  2. [all variants] Re: Getting Qt 4.7.0 Built and Installed

    Thank you! Worked great :)

I would like to point out that now there is a release-candidate to use instead of the beta:

  3. [ubuntu] Re: Purpose of /root/.local/share/Trash/expunged ?

Does this have to do with restarting? Is the share/Trash cleaned (or supposed to be cleaned) on restart?

I ask because I don't have this problem on my laptop, which I restart often. But my...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Purpose of /root/.local/share/Trash/expunged ?

In my case it's not the trash for root, it's my ~/.local/share/trash directory, which is in my user folder. The root trash folder never gets garbage in it, only my user trash dir.

    And no, I don't...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Purpose of /root/.local/share/Trash/expunged ?

I second this question. I was trying to find the source of Ubuntu crying for more hard drive space -- it gave the warning message it was running out. I found that ~/.local/share/trash had gobs of...

I have an installation of ubuntu (not a virtual disk) that I'd like to turn into a virtual box drive so that I can import it into virtual box on another system. Is there an easy way to do this?

Hmmm...this is interesting. Thank you for the link. Based on this note about upowerd crashing I simply typed 'upower' into my terminal and the battery is working now.

I added it to my starup items...

    Re: Update Manager Problem

I take it back...that fix only got me part way there...

The real problem was that my /var/lib/dpkg/status file had 1 bad character in it.

Not sure if you still need help, but I just ran into this and here is how I fixed it:

  15. Apache serving *.php.html* pages as php?

I have a web server running Apache that is serving *.php.html pages as php, not html.

Given the setup I'd prefer not editing the *.conf files for the virtual servers.

    Does anyone know of a...

  17. [ubuntu] Re: I cannot get a wireless connection!

If you want to access a file on the desktop via the terminal it will be at

    ~/Desktop/WUSB600N
  18. [ubuntu] Re: I cannot get a wireless connection!

When navigating in the Terminal it's useful to know that typing:

    cd ~/
will change you to your home directory.
    Typing
    cd /
will take you to the root of your computer.

    And, if you want to...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Proplems with software center "java 6 runtime"

I had a similar problem where the terminal overlay came up and I could not active the 'ok' button. I had to tab focus to the 'ok' button so when I hit enter it activated the button.

  21. [SOLVED] Re: Compiz Blur on Intel 945 Mobile Video Card
