  1. [SOLVED] Re: Setting Permission for a Partition using UDEV

    Hello,
Thanks for your help. Setting the drive to mount using fstab and applying the appropriate umask worked.
  2. [SOLVED] Re: Setting Permission for a Partition using UDEV

I was thinking a UDEV rule like

    ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="ntfs", ENV{mount_options}="$env{mount_options},gid=100,dmask=000,fmask=111,utf8"

might work, but it seems to have no effect on permissions.
  3. [SOLVED] Re: Setting Permission for a Partition using UDEV

It is NTFS, but my permissions are locked down pretty tight.

    Re: Keyboard missing strokes

iBus input method didn't seem to have much effect. I recently changed the composting type from XRender to OpenGL 3.1 and that seems to have resolved the issue. I'll report back again after a few days.

Re: Issues with UEFI and startup disk

Do you have secure boot disabled in your BIOS? Are you using the 64-bit Pinguy ISO? 12.04 was not as stabled as more updated distros for UEFI support (13.04 and 13.10).

Re: Grub and reboot vs shutdown -r now

I thought the same things as efflandt, 'reboot' should do the same thing as 'shutdown -r now'. You could try the --verbose option to see if you get any additional information.
  8. Re: Windows doesn't like to boot after Ubuntu

I'm not sure what you mean by kick-start... What exactly happens when you select Startup Repair? Does Windows just boot normally, do you get error messages, or maybe the "Start Windows Normally"...

    Re: Keyboard missing strokes

The laptop is only five days old, so it's still under warranty. I dual boot Windows and do not have the issue there, so I'm pretty sure it's a Linux issue.

    Keyboard missing strokes

Running Kubuntu 13.10. Keyboard occasionally misses random strokes on a Toshiba C55-A. Most of the solutions I've found suggest 'upgrading'. That's not an option for me running 13.10. Any other...

  14. Re: How to have a custom Grub2 menu that is maintenance free

    Hi Cavsfan,
You are correct about making the entries in 06_custom. They did work in that location, however remember the last OS booted did not. I re-ran Boot Repair from 13.10 live disc as suggested...
  15. Re: How to have a custom Grub2 menu that is maintenance free

Success!! In addition to the edits to /etc/default/grub, I had to add savedefault to each menu entry in vim /etc/grub.d/25_custom.

Thanks for the info above. Unfortunately, making those changes seems to have no effect as well. I tried purging and re-installing grub using the live 13.10 disc, still nothing has changed. Here is...

No quite. I would like whichever OS was previosly loaded to load upon reboot. This works fine in Linux, as it's the default option. But it does not in Windows (which requires frequent restarts).
