    whenever i am booting my laptop and selecting ubuntu 10.10 i get init ureadhead main process (268) terminated with status 5 and then a violet screen occurs which never dissapears.. pls...

    it should be sudo gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg and not /boot/grub/menu.lst.. remember you are using ubuntu 10.04

    you can simply delete the part that contains the windows nt entry from grub configuration file... but before that always have a back up of grub file if you are making some changes there.. back up.....

    alternatively you can run this command from terminal


    sudo fdisk -l


    this will list all your partitions

    ok go to system->administration-> disk utiliity.. there you will find a partition diagram..click on each partiton and see if any one is sda3?

    no its not third hdd.. its partition of your hdd which you have in your system.. external drives are designated by /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc or /dev/sdd etc... you try to mount this sda3
