[server] Slow performance with mdadm RAID 5

    Hi,
I'm experiencing (what I think is) very slow performance with my mdadm RAID 5 array.

I'm just about scraping by with my mdadm / disk knowledge, so please be kind :)

    I've tested performance...

    Re: RAID 5 won't mount

Thanks. I booted from a USB stick and have now removed the bad RAID drive. It still doesn't boot because the OS drive seems to also have died. I plan on adding the RAID members to new hardware when I...

    Re: RAID 5 won't mount

Oh, dear. Things have taken a turn for the worse.

I started it up and now it doesn't boot, just hangs at an (iniramfs) prompt :(

It says EXT4-fs (sda1): error loading journal. I think it's...

    Re: RAID 5 won't mount

Yes, that is confusing, sorry. I took a look at fixing this a few months ago and I think that was my attempt at fixing it then.

There are 5 disks in the array.

There are 6 disks in total,...

    RAID 5 won't mount

    Hi,
I have a RAID 5 that will not mount. I think one or more of the disks is dead.

I've tried forcing it to start but it says that there are not enough disks to start.

    I have a feeling that...

Thanks for filing the report. We'll wait and see what happens.
  8. [ubuntu] Re: 10.04 server hangs when RAID5 disk is removed

I think it should at least display something! :)

    Thanks
  9. [ubuntu] Re: 10.04 server hangs when RAID5 disk is removed

Haha, no we're getting somewhere! :)

's' allows me to skip and the machine continues to boot.

So, in a disaster recovery situation, I can add another disk and resync the array. I've also...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: 10.04 server hangs when RAID5 disk is removed

    Anyone have any ideas?
  11. [ubuntu] Re: 10.04 server hangs when RAID5 disk is removed

    Ok, so if I add
    noauto to
/etc/fstab then the machine boots and the RAID array shows this:

If I try to mount the array manually like this
  12. [ubuntu] Re: 10.04 server hangs when RAID5 disk is removed

    Thanks for the response.

I done this now, but it still doesn't boot. I'm a bit confused about this anyway because my / is not on the RAID. Hmmm.

I'll have to keep digging :)
  13. [ubuntu] 10.04 server hangs when RAID5 disk is removed

    Hi,
I've got a new Ubuntu 10.04 server install with a new 3 disk RAID 5. The boot disk is separate, not part of the RAID.

I was trying to practice what I would do if a disk died to recover the...

    [ubuntu] New monitor causing hangs

    Hi,
I've just got a Dell 2408WFP LCD monitor running at 1920x1200. My previous monitor was a CRT running at 1600x1200. The resolution wasn't automatically detected when plugging it in, so I...
