Very useful for me as well. And disappointing. I guess it'll be another year or so before it is safe to buy a convertible tablet compatible with Ubuntu.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but does anyone know the temperature at which the fan spins high? I'm seeing temps of 60-65 C, and the fan still seems to be low. The trackpad is uncomfortably hot...
I think you should urge him to give isantop a chance. Just my 2 cents based on my own experience.
Has anyone from S76 reached out to you in response to your posts in this thread? Just curious, as it does seem S76 employees are on this forum and must have seen your posts.

This is an issue of interest to me, as I like my laptop, especially the trackpad area to be nice and cool to the touch. So far, it seems the best thing one can do to lower running temps is to use an...
Cool, thanks. I'm still trying to learn about these different types of displays, but based on personal experience, the matte display on my Thinkpad T410i is significantly better than the glossy one...
It's not the most precise approach, but I just use xgamma to tweak the gamma until the colors seem less washed out. In my case, I set the gamma to 0.7.
Too expensive for my taste, but thanks for pointing that out.
I ended up going with an inexpensive USB 3.0 enclosure instead--about half the price of the S76 caddy--because I don't really need the...
Interesting. I'm using stock configuration, and just looked at my connection information for the first time. I'm not sure what the default tool in Xubuntu is, but the info doesn't say anything...
OK, I decided to do a bit of investigating, and I can at least tell you how to get the optical drive out. It's quite easy and involves 5 screws. First, you remove the main panel, which has 4 black...
Thanks for asking this question! I wonder if this product would work with the LemU4:

I have a spare 500GB drive that I could put to...
Glossy. At least, it appears that way to me. Don't expect to use it under bright light. Good viewing angle under normal light though.
On my Thinkpad T410 as well as a Dell XPS that I used to own, the speakers were placed at the top and they both deliver much better sound than the LemU4--less muffled for sure. Design does make a...
It would be nice if they did, but S76 won't do that. At least, they would not when I asked them to install Xubuntu on my lemU4. It's no big deal to do it yourself, though, and I think most folks...
At first I thought Fn+F7 was doing nothing. But after connecting my TV via HDMI and configuring with ARandR, I saw that the TV screen was blank. I hit Fn+F7, and hey presto, my extended desktop...
I don't speak for S76, but I can tell you that installing Xubuntu 12.04 on my lemU4 was completely painless; the only extra step is installing the S76 driver, which is very simple. Don't let...
My lemU4 is running Xubuntu 12.04 as well. I installed ARandR, and I can use that to set up multiple displays. You do have to hit Fn+F7 *after* configuring with ARandR.
For audio, run...
The Lenovo X series convertible tablet may work for you. I don't own it, and Ubuntu is not supported out of the box AFAIK, but I believe that the tablet capabilities of this laptop are available in...
As Carborundum says, this update isn't designed to fix the problem you mentioned. However, I don't see anything here that says you can't install it on any system. The update comes from Ubuntu, so...
Have you installed it? Curious to hear about any possible improvements you've seen on your system. My lemU4 seems to be fine, but if there were a noticeable benefit, I'd consider installing this...
Bummer, didn't really do much for me. Seemed like a cool idea though. I guess I'll have to stick with the external fan (very effective, if a bit noisy) and wait for Intel to make cooler running...
The fact that Intel graphics works out of the box is a huge draw for me. I suffered through ATI's proprietary drivers back in the day, and frankly, there is something very comforting about using...
Also, a tablet is not the same thing as an ultrabook. I'm rooting for the former. :KS
Point of clarification: is this new kernel part of official Ubuntu, or is it something separately released by S76?
I'm experiencing no issues on my lemu4, and so I'd rather not install something...
