Why not take the USB stick to another 'buntu computer?
This way if it works, you get to save your data and find out if it is FAT or NTFS.
If it doesnt, you know its the device, not your computer.

Wouldn't this be the same as if you'd wrecked your original data anyway?

I’ve been using U1 as backup thru deja-dup for years, with full satisfaction. With U1 on its way out, now what?
Could it be as easy as leaving everything in place as is, just going to deja and...
Have you tried assigning a spare key (like the "0" in the keypad) to the eject task? Does it in one hit without the need for mouse etc.
Go to system settings > keyboard > shortcuts > sound &...
I don't know what you're looking for in 'stable', Paddy, but I find 3.6 so happy on my Precise that I've moved it via that ppa above into all (3) production machines which I earn my bread on. No...
Deja Dup wins for me, because it's background, uniintrusive, uses Ubuntu One in the cloud and up till now is set and forget, including right click restores. What's more to need?
Well, I'm using "ppa:libreoffice/ppa" and this delivered me 3.6...?
Good one, Tobiz.
Worked for me on 12.04 when I was being driven crazy after a RAID replace of a bad drive (thanks, Ubuntu RAID - didn't lose a 'bit' of data) and because the sys couldn't...
OK - mystery solved, after a fashion. Seems that I was using draft mode and the driver takes this to mean don't even put toner to paper, so blank page. Moving to normal print quality gives draft,...
Here's a head scratcher -
After a flawless upgrade to 12.04 my previously fully working hp 2015 printer now "prints" blank pages on a print job (i.e. makes all the right noises, emits right number...
OK. End of the line.
I've +finally+ got Amazon to admit that the Cloud Reader is not allowed/released/available in the UK for legal/copyright/business reasons and there are no plans in the near...
My friend, I really really must get on with my life and catch up a bit.
There's hand-wringing from Amazon tech support but no movement.
I'm at the point where if I could buy an e-book I'd...
Have cookies on. Its very clear that theres a problem and that problem is nothing to do with Ubuntu, just insanity by neglect on the part of Amazon.
Got an email from Help in Amazon.com that said...
Thanks, whatthefunk, but #2 above applies. When I try to buy an ebook on the Amazon site I get:
"we did not find a Kindle device or reading app registered to your Amazon account for which this...
These URLs correctly point to where you can get the Cloud Reader - but (what a surprise!) the only listed versions are for PC, Android, Mac, Ipad. No Linux. So no go.
Going about it the other way...
So now we have a Kindle cloud reader on the desktop - for Linux under Firefox at last! http://mashable.com/2011/11/08/kindle-cloud-reader-firefox/
Only thing is there doesn't seem to be any way...
Can certainly confirm the xpdf segmentation fault crash in Natty. There must be other pdf print programs out there...?
If it's a spool problem more printer memory should fix.
Yes, pdf ok - slow, but this is because pdf is essentially like a graphic and requires much more memory in the 1320 itself than comes as standard. As I don't often print pdf's I can't be bothered to...
Hey - I'm running a 1320 on 11.04 and its never missed a beat! So good I've made it default printer on the network.
I use the 'HP LaserJet 1320 series Postscript (recommended)' default driver and...
Another way that works for me - don't know why - is to switch to workspace 1 then back. I have my workspaces bind to the top keypad keys so it's a very quick thing. (Compiz settings mgr Viewport...
Sorry for the delay - haven't checked this post for yonks...
The meat:
The first is a line to include in /etc/fstab
The second is a bash script.
If you're unfamiliar with these, open a plain...
I've given the Natty beta a whirl and I can see the sense in where Unity is going, so I probably will go with 11.04 on my production desktop PC.
Problem: I've put in cubic hours getting my...
I've never used anything else other than Recoll for some years. It's lightning fast, including the initial index, and it's awesomely accurate. Best part is that it has a powerful query engine that...
Perfect upgrade - impressive, stable, v easy on the eye, a distro to love!
Good for you! Does this mean you're now able to run your app under Ubuntu? Using Wine? If so, this counts as some sort of breakthrough and I wanna hear more!
