    Re: Delphi?

Dephi is only for Windows. Kylix is the Linux equivilent. I heard that it's no longer supported by Borland though. I might be wrong.

If you're interested in programming, and already know pascal...

Re: If Windows is so intuitive...

I agree with using amazon. They'll even ship to me, and it's cheaper for me to buy from amazon.com than amazon.co.uk even though the U.K. is much closer. Because I am in the Eurpoean union, U.K....

Re: If Windows is so intuitive...

Well, I'm the old fashion kind of guy who likes a printed book. You think you guys in the States have it bad, try living in Mainland Europe. Sure, there are books, but most of them are not in...

Poll: Re: Did Vista Bring You to Ubuntu?

Interesting that you mention EULA. Have you seen the EULA from Novell? Even OpenSuSe has it, and it's not much better than the one's we reject. The Novell/MS flamewars are not over, but it seems...

Poll: Re: Did Vista Bring You to Ubuntu?

It seems that so far the majority of the people answering this poll didn't switch specifically because of Vista, but they all seem to have a negative opinion about it, as do almost all users of...

Poll: Re: Ubuntu Policy: Don't fix bugs

    Hobbsee:

I agree. I actually regret posting that howto, and thankfully it is now irrelevant.

I find that having only one person responsible for the repositories is by far too few for such a...

Poll: Re: Ubuntu Policy: Don't fix bugs

Yes, I remember that xorg bug vividly.

The problem is that bug fixes can sometimes create new bugs. While it may be desirable to have the bugs in packages fixed, the core of the work by the...

Re: HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3

Before my internet connection dies, I want to reply one last time to Hobbsee.

I would be glad to help with the development of Kubuntu, but alas I am not a good enough artist nor programmer in C++...

Re: HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3

I wouldn't try that edgy upgrade that I mentioned. I did a test to see what would happen, and it turns out that a lot of broken packages would be created if one did it.

    If someone is really...

Re: HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3

I was aware about quoting two people, that's why I quoted.

Perhaps 3.5.3 has finally made it into backports after all. I haven't checked today. I do know that the version that was on kubuntu.org...

Re: HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3

No, GDM has nothing do to do with the bug. It's in KDE 3.5.3, so if you didn't upgrade to 3.5.3 then your screensaver should still work since dapper uses 3.5.2.

    Arizonagroovejet made the original...

Re: HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3

Are you sure the screensaver is selected? If it blanks your screen then we know it at least can tell that you aren't using the keyboard or mouse for a period of time.

I can assure you that the...

I like the new scripts. You're getting better and better! One thing though. You're so throrough that your script deletes itself, resulting in an error. It is of course a harmless error, but...

Re: HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3

One thing I noticed was that when I upgraded to Edgy, I kept getting the message that libkdeinit_kdedesktop.so was not a system link. It didn't cause any problem, but during the upgrade the message...

Poll: Re: Forum Upgrades & Changes

I'll be glad when the KDE Blue is back. The orange and brown are to me annoying. I prefer cold colors to warm ones. Each person has their own tastes, and I look forward to being able to choose...

Re: HOWTO: NZB, PAR and UNRAR all-in-one

Foolish was far too strong of an adjective. Perhaps unwise would have been better. I agree with the idea of a package. Personally I would prefer a better interface than the console (or screen). ...

Re: HOWTO: NZB, PAR and UNRAR all-in-one

Using that .deb seems a bit foolish to me. Why should it be running as root? That's the same problem that I was running into before. My regular account can't move the files from the download...

Re: HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3

How are we supposed to know that? I mean, think about it. KDE 3.5.3 was released on June 1, 2005, the same day that Dapper was released, yet the ubutuntu repositories 4 weeks later still only have...

I have an Athlon 3400+ and I run the 64-bit version of Kubuntu (on top of Ubuntu). The 32-bit version doesn't work well on this computer due to a bug in the processor.

HOWTO: Fix screensaver for KDE 3.5.3
