  1. Re: Unable to increase disk vol (will forcibly become "dynamic" which means I can't b

How do I do these things exactly - both the expansion and the making of a new "logical" NTFS (I'm not on ubuntu exclusively so sorry for not being up to date)
  2. Re: Unable to increase disk vol (will forcibly become "dynamic" which means I can't b

Are you suggesting it's easier to create a whole new NTFS partition (on the unallocated) and then be done with it? (so that I don't have to move the ubuntu stuff (ext4)?

    That's fine by me.

    At...
  3. Re: Unable to increase disk vol (will forcibly become "dynamic" which means I can't b

Hmm... your terminal command seems to have revealed a third one - must be one of those "Q" drive type invisible things
  4. Re: Unable to increase disk vol (will forcibly become "dynamic" which means I can't b

    - 1 HDD,
    - 2 drives/disks
    - multiple partitions on each

    Model: ATA WDC WD5000BPVT-2 (scsi)
    Disk /dev/sda: 500GB

  5. Unable to increase disk vol (will forcibly become "dynamic" which means I can't boot)

I have a dual boot laptop w/ Windows on one disk (in windows parlance "disk 0" or "C drive") and Ubuntu 16.04 installed on the second disk aka "1" aka "D". I have enough unallocated space on so I...
  6. Re: No connection to some websites - others (including this one) works

Yea I didn't do backup - I skipped it since I wasn't prompted at the installation. Now I know that's a must. I do have the live CD.
  7. Re: No connection to some websites - others (including this one) works

OK things have gone from bad to worse - I can't even get the GUI started now Looks like I should do what I should have done earlier anywayv (reinstall the whole ubutnu - what I need now is a...
  8. Re: No connection to some websites - others (including this one) works

I have no idea what you mean.

Whatever banned IP I ping I get "destination port unreachable"
  9. Re: No connection to some websites - others (including this one) works

No it has nothing to do with any of that because I did have access to those sites yesterday.

Nothing happened overnight that caused half websites to shut down here.

Now I did a ping and the...
  10. Re: No connection to some websites - others (including this one) works

@TheFu - I can't connect to that site (jdpfu.com) evidently one of the blocked ones.

And one more thing: some sites are half-connected (for example I can access some yahoo pages while I can't...
  11. No connection to some websites - others (including this one) works

So far I'm only able to make out that it's def. not a browser, firewall or wifi network issue.

16.04's inbult help (F1) has nothing whatsoever on offer. The only troubleshoot in my help section...

[ubuntu] Re: Laptop keyboard MM key not working

    Can someone help please?

I come from windows and therefore I have no dedicated compose key and it really is a hazard to combine a set of keys in order to simulate a compose key since compose key...

[ubuntu] Re: Laptop keyboard MM key not working

Can somebody at least verify whether this is the right place to ask?

I really want a way to rearrange keys on my keyboard (none of the programs suggested in other threads including the already...

[ubuntu] Laptop keyboard MM key not working

I read on this forum to try KeyTouch in order to program a MultiMedia key/button but that resulted in nothing - that program seems to be not effecitve on ubuntu 16.04. Other programs are even worse...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

Everything works perfectly in the windows part of my machine. It boots into it without a hint of a problem.

Only ubuntu fails and even that is not predictable or regular. And even that is strange...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

Now half the programs can't even start

I can't turn on update manager, synaptic etc etc, none of them even open. Terrific.
  18. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

Browser just crashed multiple times in a row

Right now I am unable to continue using Ubuntu

Is this normal expected Ubuntu behavior?
  19. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

Strange how Ubuntu is beginning to act like a 10 year ago Windows-XP machine infected with malware
  20. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

    And the mess continues:

A minute ago the login (not the entire computer but only the GUI part beginning with my username and password input) decided to abruptly shut and restart (completely...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

    This problem must be solved

The latest crap of a login was in only after I tried it 6 times!

Also this time I tried to to boot via "recovery" kernel and that too failed to boot.

    This was...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

  23. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

    you mean /var/log?

What file should I open in that folder?
  24. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

    bump
  25. [ubuntu] Re: After an Ubuntu update, my computer FAILS to even start up.

Now my computer "hanged" after it logged in and after I used it for an hr.

In other words this week's update of Ubuntu is nothing short of clusterf*ck
