Alright, I booted into partedmagic, configured the display, copied the xorg.conf.new file, pasted it into my Linux Mint partition into its own xorg.conf file, rebooted and now I can see again.
Is...
Anyone think that copying the xorg.conf from another distro will work? Like partedmagic?
I tried a couple of other live cds and their xorg.conf files are very different. There is no auto...
I don't have it in front of me right this minute, but I know the graphics card is an ATI X300. Going on 4 years old now.
Xorg.conf didn't tell me anything, really.
# xorg.conf (X.Org X...
The text I saw was the same as above. Same exact string of text. Why can't this be fixed?
Unfortunately, I did reboot and used the recovery mode. xfix did not do anything. It came up with some text but was too fast for me to write down.
Anything else?
Okay,
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg did not work.
I got the following error message:
xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration file; backup in...
Yes, I can get to a terminal on the desktop. I just can't see it.
I'll try the ctrl+alt+F1 to see if I can get a straight CLI working.
I'll have to type it all in very carefully if not.

My HP monitor blew a fuse or something the other day. Smoking is bad for your health, and it was smoking profusely.
So, I replaced it with a Polaroid brand LCD I had lying around. Plugged it in...
Burning at a slower speed did bupkiss. Suggestions?
Okay, after a few reboots, the BIOS recognized my USB drive. I changed the boot order but the screen displayed some bizzare symbols and read that it could not boot. I'm thinking that has to do with...
I'm having a similar problem, albeit not exactly the same. The difference is that my usb doesn't even show up in my BIOS list. Network Adapter, CD-Rom drive, Floppy, or Hard Disk are my only options?...
I know the discs have all the proper info on them, because I used them in another computer. They all boot up just fine.
What would cause a DVD/CD drive (MATSHITA UJ 840-D) to recognize that...
So I burned a few ISOs to some blank CD-Rs. I know they're blank because I just purchased them. Ubuntu reads them as blank just fine, media mounts like normal.
After burning, I reboot my laptop to...
And the result would apparently look something like this:

Hilarious!
Who said anything about imaginary?
Suffice it to say, I love the new Macbooks, but I also love the Linux OS. I'm no mac fanboy, but I love the apple designs.
Um, would you feel comfortable dropping $1,299 on a simple new Macbook for me? :)
I'm getting this problem:
zeller@zd8000 ~ $ sudo ./doom3

found interface lo - loopback

Wait for the Beta? :)
Should be. It uses the network but doesn't control the network to my knowledge. Network Manager does that and it uses the Restricted Driver for the B43xx chipset. Completely unrelated. So, should be.
You should be good to go then when you restart. That's odd that it didn't hold over through a reboot.
In case you have to get back to that little icon and you don't want to wait for weeks, search...
Look in /usr/local/bin
I think that's where they are. Might be a little different for each application though. Anyone else want to correct that if I'm wrong, be my guest.
Only thing I can think of is actually a question.
Do they use a Windows program to do Taxes? If so, there isn't an equivalent in Linux that is supported by the tax software companies out there....
I never have blank CD-R discs just laying around. I have plenty of DVD-R discs. I've never had a problem with burning an OS to a DVD and running it from that. Go ahead. The most harm it can do is...
Bump. I am having the same problem and need this resolved asap for work related issues. I am even getting the same dmesg as op only my socket is 0:2 instead of 0:0. All else is same.
Can anyone...
